Mechanical Site Superintendent (Foreman)

Location: Stoney Creek, ON

Overview

Our client is a multi-trade contractor and manufacturer based out of Hamilton. With a reputation based on providing top-of-class products and successfully executing quality projects, they are looking to add a highly experienced Mechanical Site Superintendent (Foreman) to their team for a full time, permanent position.

The Superintendent is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Ensure safety on site at all times, adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and COR Requirements. Responsible for the coordination and lead on all site health and safety requirements including job site inspections, safety talks, PPE requirements, health and safety plans, FLRA, site orientation, MOL inspections, accident, and incident protocols
  • Involved in the entire construction process, and able to follow through on the project in its entirety.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the contract requirements.
  • Plan, execute, and coordinate work plans for assigned projects for the mechanical division and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Organize and supervise site staff, trades, and subcontractors and ensure that they are performing as required.
  • Review construction plans for compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances, such as plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Ensure the project proceeds in a timely manner and plan tasks to ensure deadlines and milestones are met.
  • Ensure all necessary permits and licenses are obtained to continue with the project.
  • Constantly monitor and report on the progress of the project to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure the quality of work and materials are upheld.
  • Manage worder hours.
  • Oversee assigned projects for compliance with specifications, local codes, and installation techniques.
  • Monitor and ensure subcontractors understand expectations of the project prior to the start date.
  • Ensure subcontractors are made aware of their roles and responsibilities regarding safe work procedures and comply with all companywide safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure testing, start up and field level reports are submitted.

Here’s What You’ll Need To Be Successful

  • Relevant diploma, degree and/or trade license (Millwright, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, Gas Fitter, etc.), Mechanical Engineering.
  • PMP designation or other courses related to construction project management are an asst.
  • 5 or more years’ of experience in Mechanical construction project coordination / management, including contracts, costing, planning, and scheduling.
  • Trade experience (Steamfitter, Gasfitter, Welder, Plumber) is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G License) is required.
  • Considerable knowledge of applicable union contracts.
  • Notable experience with provincial health and safety regulations, construction safety best practices and legislation. Experience with COR is highly desired.
  • Strong history of successfully completed projects on time, budget, to spec.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Project, and Word). Experience with Accubid is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of various standard forms of contracts.
  • Knowledge of construction processes (RFI, RFQ, Change Orders, etc.).
  • Capable of reading construction/engineering drawings and schematics.
  • A positive attitude, proactive and diplomatic leadership skills, a high level of professionalism, accountability and integrity.
  • The ability to multitask and problem solve in a high-pressure work environment.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with a strong sense of pride in work.
  • valid G class driers license with a clean driving record and ability to travel to work sites.
  • Willing to travel to job sites as required (generally within Golden Horseshoe but could involve projects in other areas of Ontario from time to time).
