Who you are

You have a worked as a Psychiatrist for a minimum of 1 year, with experience working in a similar role.

You have a Medical Degree from a recognized medical school and postgraduate studies (residency) in the field of Psychiatric Medicine.

You possess a valid license to practice medicine in New Brunswick through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick (CPSNB), and Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.

What you will do

Reporting to the Psychiatric Medicine Department Head and the Medical Director for the area, the Psychiatrist collaborates with other Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Registered, Nurses, and other Allied Medical Staff to provide:

  • Outpatient service for assessment and management of new and follow-up patients.
  • Assessments and outpatient treatment for veterans, RCMP members at the VAC funded, Operational Stress Injury, OSI clinic.
  • Inpatient care on call.
  • Admit psychiatry patients under own care, when deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Consultations to inpatients and emergency room patients as requested by attending staff.
  • Telephone psychiatric consultation to physician on request.
  • On/off site outpatient psychiatric consultations and treatment to any of the Psychiatric programmes as may be assigned to by the departmental chief.
  • Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values, and strategic directions.
  • Other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Department of Psychiatry.
