PLEA Community Services is currently seeking a Regular Full-Time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for our Adult Services team located in Vancouver, BC, working with clients who primarily reside in Greater Vancouver area, BC. The proposed start date for this position is as soon as possible. This position requires BCGEU membership.

Hours of Work: The usual hours of work in this position are Monday to Friday based on a flextime scheduling arrangement, including days and evenings, of 37.5 working hours per week.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved Practical Nursing Program.
  • Current Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year of recent related experience.

What You Will Do

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care to meet the needs of participants in accordance with competency guidelines within the established standards of practice and current legislative scope of practice.
  • Share knowledge, provide direction, assignment and supervision to unregulated care providers as appropriate.
  • Provide input regarding participants’ needs, performance and progress. Attend multidisciplinary care meetings.
  • Perform nursing care and procedures and evaluate outcomes.
  • Encourage and assist participants in activities of daily living as required, such as feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, oral hygiene and toileting.
  • Administer medication to participants and provide medication reminders in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  • Observe participants and their environments, and report unsafe conditions and behavioural, physical and/or cognitive changes to supervisor.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to participants and their families.
  • Complete and maintain related records and documentation such as progress notes, observations and participant charting. Report problems and/or changes to designated staff. Answer general inquiries by telephone and in person and provide direction and routine information about programs and policies.
  • Identify social, economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet the needs of participants and assist them to participate as appropriate and as dictated by their desires and person-centred plans.
  • Protect and uphold confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues and trends related to the program.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, database systems and web-based conferencing tools.

Minimum Requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance.
  • Must possess a valid Basic First Aid certificate (formerly OFA Level 1) or be willing to obtain one prior to hire.
  • Use of personal vehicle for work-related travel. This position requires travel in the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley.
  • A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License, and suitable driver's abstract/claims history.
  • Documentation that the applicant is legally approved to work in Canada.
