$20.14 - $24.22 per hour

For all roles:

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave:

  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay


In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:

  • $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
  • $2.75 per hour for evenings

Role Responsibilities

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to improving a visitor’s experience when they visit a provincial park by maintaining facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team in the Spruce Grove District.


We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Maintenance Worker who is ready to start work immediately and work through until March 31, 2025.

Individuals will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of campgrounds, day use areas, facilities, and trail systems. Parks included in the Spruce Grove District Area, but not limited to, Carson Pegasus Provincial Park, Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park, Wolf Lake West Provincial Recreation Area, Minnow Lake Provincial Recreation Area and Fort Assiniboine Sandhills Wilderness Wildland.

As a Park Maintenance Service Worker (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Performing landscaping, snow clearing, building cleaning and site servicing of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities
  • Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment
  • Conducting water testing for small water systems
  • Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, ATVs, skid steers, etc.
  • Assisting with trail maintenance, beach and dock maintenance
  • Installing and maintaining signage
  • Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly
  • Assists with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs
  • Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols as well as within the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols
  • Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses


All positions will require you to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for the number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any time of weather conditions, rain or shine.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards

Park Maintenance Worker – (Maintenance Service Worker 1)

  • Some high school education or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education


Additional Assets to be successful in any of the roles:

  • Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance, and safety of small equipment
  • Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions
  • Chainsaw certification Skid Steer certification
  • Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints
  • Experience working within a campground setting

Notes

Terms of Employment:

  • Ability to start immediately until March 31, 2025
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required
  • Final Candidates may be required to provide an acceptable 5yr Commercial Driver’s Abstract. (Will be reimbursed)
  • Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C"/AED Certificate an asset to the role
  • Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided; Certified Safety footwear is not provided, but candidates will be reimbursed for a portion of the cost
  • This position will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
  • This position will be required to drive to remote locations
  • This position will have a frequenty working alone component
  • This position will require some trips where staying overnight is required – accommodations would be supplied
