POSITION: RAILCAR REPAIRER / MAINTENANCE

Our Railcars Maintenance shop located at 2200 Caribou St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7N5 is looking for motivated and dynamic individuals with at least a High School Diploma or Equivalent, certification in electric or mechanic as well as abilities in Welding and/or Mechanic, Entry or Advanced Level for its open positions as RAILCAR REPAIRER / MAINTENANCE. This role performs preventive maintenance, repairs, changes, improvements, and conversions to the shop's buildings, grounds, machinery and equipment. Strives to facilitate a culture of continuous improvement utilizing the SQDC(Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost) methodology to improve general shop maintenance. 

 

 

Position Purpose:

 

This role performs preventive maintenance, repairs, changes, improvements, and conversions to the shop's buildings, grounds, machinery and equipment. Strives to facilitate a culture of continuous improvement utilizing the SQDC(Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost) methodology to improve general shop maintenance. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform maintenance of automatic steam boiler and auxiliary equipment; (power engineering an asset)
  • Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, maintains, assembles, and lubricates mechanical equipment;
  • Ensure that items like air compressor, waste treatment equipment, blast equipment, automatic brake tester, and drill press are working properly;
  • Performs minor electrical work as required;
  • Repairs and maintains shop buildings, overhead doors and windows;
  • Installs and maintains piping for water, air and steam lines, toilets and drinking fountains;
  • Operates simple machine tools such as drill press, threading machines, and hydraulic press;
  • Performing welding on equipment as required in the performance of maintenance work;
  • Identify and perform all tool, equipment, machinery, and building maintenance repairs and update eMaint
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with vendors of parts and services related to maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory of appropriate replacement parts and maintenance stock;
  • Ensure equipment logs are maintained and provided to the appropriate parties for reporting purposes.
  • Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner 
  • Comply with established safety policies, support continuing safety awareness for safety, and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs. 

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of maintenance background in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • A certification in electricity or mechanic is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions
  • Extensive knowledge of facility equipment and buildings. General Computer skills or ability to quickly learn (eMaint). CI green belt or equivalent is a plus.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as IO instructions, FM instructions, work orders, AAR Field Manual, etc.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results. 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Perform semi-routine jobs where judgment is required to obtain results.  Ability to make changes in routine or sequence on repetitive job involving selection, positioning, and manual tasks such as positioning, assembling, etc., at a steady pace where accuracy and dexterity of a high degree are required. Ability to read, access, and interpret diagrams, Excel spreadsheets, and company policies.

Ability to work well with others in a positive manner

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions
  • Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift (vertically) up to 85 pounds from the ground surface
  • Must be able to push/pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate, hearing protection must be worn.
  • Must be able to physically enter confined spaces (rail car manways as small as 18” in diameter) and work in enclosed environments

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to indoor, and outdoor work conditions and elements.
