Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have an opening for an Assistant Category manager on a 36 month contract.

Here’s Where You’ll Be Focusing

  • Accountable for the execution of product, placement, pricing, and promotion for items within their categories, consistent with each banner strategy
  • Respond to customer needs in their category and is responsible for developing and executing customer-relevant strategies.
  • Review and analyze margins, supplier funding, retail savings, pricing reference article, forecasts, units of measure, cost, retails, and sales sets for accuracy.
  • Work with the Category Manager to plan all promotional activity across various categories. Which includes entering all promotions into the promotional tool and reviewing and analyze margins, deals, retail savings, pricing reference article, forecasts, units of measure, cost, pages and for accuracy.
  • Communicate with Replenishment Team with respect to inventory management.
  • Review competitive price checks and take appropriate action on weekly price change report.
  • Assist with the resolution of pricing promotion, and/or data issues.
  • Review vendor article submissions and facilitate new article creation via Sobeys Listing Platform.
  • Work with the Food Experience Team, Customer Experience Team, and Own Brands on new product launches.
  • Develop a deep understanding of designated categories, market trends and consumer behaviors.
  • Review Agency Business report daily and review discrepancies with Category Manager.
  • Assist in ad creation and ad proofing processes.
  • Creation of allocation table requests with Sobeys National Allocations and Store Communication.
  • Conduct or attend internal as well as supplier meetings.
  • Respond to requests to meet customer needs.
  • Identify opportunities and expedite category plans with operational support.
  • Identify underperforming categories and/or articles.
  • Work with Category Manager in development and management of merchandising programs.
  • Work with Category Manager in managing the seasonal process.

What You Have To Offer

  • Ability to leverage technology (SAP, Microsoft Office suite, etc.) to review and analyze large volumes of data
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the business (oral and written)
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as individually
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience working in the retail industry; grocery industry preferred
  • Highly organized with careful attention to detail

At Sobeys we require our teammates to have the ability to adhere to a hybrid work model that requires your presence at one of our office locations at least three days per week. This requirement is integral to our commitment to team collaboration and the overall success of our office culture.

The salary range for this position in British Columbia is - $77,000.00. We will consider factors such as your working location, work experience and skills as well as internal equity, and market conditions to ensure that you are paid fairly and competitively.
