Overview

The Insurance Analytics team is responsible for providing a variety of analytics across the Insurance & Working Capital Solutions (IWCS) products as part of the Small Business and Partnerships Group. They are responsible for supporting the performance and integrity of all products of the Group through analytics in support of informed decision making. Their responsibilities include the development and maintenance of credit and pricing models, advancing business & predictive analytics and forecasting. These activities are undertaken with a view to providing market-driven insurance & working capital solutions to meet the needs of the Canadian trade community and our 2030 Strategy.

Discipline Summary

  • The role focuses on supporting and developing underwriting and risk management capabilities for the underwriting and management of insurance and guarantee solutions;
  • Researches, reviews and implements best practices in risk rating and pricing to support the attainment of Group objectives;
  • Creates scoring, rating and decision models for transactional and portfolio management teams to use for streamlining, automating and standardizing credit granting decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the development, monitoring and updating of credit and pricing models and tools for the purposes of risk management and credit granting decision-making;
  • Mines data and performs detailed predictive intelligence analysis and interpretation to proactively identify risks;
  • Develops, reviews, implements and monitors credit and portfolio risk warning systems, standards and procedures to proactively identify, control and assess credit risk;
  • Develops and documents standards and processes related to the development, methodology selection, testing, validation, calibration and usage of models and tools;
  • Supports the development and monitoring of key performance indicators of pricing/automation strategies;
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to make improvements to models, guidelines and processes by interpreting internal/external business challenges which are consistent with team and corporate goals;
  • Contributes to and/or presents business cases to management and/or senior management identifying portfolio risks and recommending tactics to support the generation of efficiencies in systems and processes derived from automation;
  • Supports the development of a next-gen predictive analytics strategy, implementation and monitoring functions;
  • Be expected to independently manage the non-standard requests that come to the team;
  • Influence the achievement of internal/external customer, operational, project or service objectives;
  • Engages in stakeholder consultation, management, and training.
  • Provide oversight and coaching to more junior employees;

Screening Criteria

  • Completed an Undergraduate Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or in a related field
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in predictive analytics, model development, credit risk management or related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of credit risk management, accounting, banking and/or finance principles and practices
  • Advanced programming knowledge and experience in the management and manipulation of large and complex data files (SAS EG, SAS Viya, Denodo, MS-SQL, MS-Excel, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical techniques, data mining, predictive modelling, and/or machine learning algorithms and interpretation
  • Team player, with strong interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Fluent in English (written and oral)

Assets

  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
  • Graduate Degree (Masters or PhD) would be an asset
  • Actuarial, Financial or Accounting designation
  • Analytics related skills (data sourcing, data management, data manipulation, text analytics, modelling and interpretation)
  • Experience communicating with and influencing decisions at a senior management level
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Risk Management
  • Familiarity with model validation and documentation frameworks
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, econometric models, Internal Rating-Based models (PD, LGD and EAD) and Basel II/III standards

Salary Range

  • Actuarial Analysis 18: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $92, 355 – $123,140 plus performance-based incentive

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role will be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa.
