Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.

As a Compliance Co-Op Student (12 months) with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive group of Compliance experts. The successful candidate will be exposed to the structure of an operations management system and the requirements of a federally regulated work environment.

This opportunity is open to post-secondary students who are currently enrolled in their 3rd year of studies and are part of a Co-op Program.

The position will begin in January 2025 with a term length of 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screen and communicate reported hazards and potential hazards to applicable Program Representatives for their assessment and potential actions.
  • Prepare a summary report on all submitted hazards and create monthly internal news flashes.
  • Support the development of resource materials, such as video, and reference materials, related to incident management, management of change and document control for internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to preparing hazard and risk management updates for the ISLMS Steering Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, and the Quality Assurance Annual Management Review and Annual Report.
  • Review and analyze incidents and near misses under the direction of the Compliance Analyst.
  • Support the ongoing development of specifications and requirements for contractors related to training and qualification when working in the field.
  • Populate meta data and archive Compliance Records.
  • Maintain and update the Unified Hazard and Risk Register.
  • Keep event dashboards up to date.
  • Support the team by updating the internal trackers, folders, and reporting systems.
  • Assist with other team functions and provide support as necessary.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Enrolled in Business or Environmental Science degree with an interest in Information and Risk Management, preferably entering third year or higher.
  • Strong ability to navigate SharePoint and other relevant software.
  • Understands basic compliance concepts.
  • Highly developed research and writing skills.
  • Analytical mindset with demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Approaches challenges with mental tenacity and ability to overcome resistance.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Organized, self-starter who can work in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and deadline oriented.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem solving, organizational, and customer service skills.

The expected pay range for this position is $22.42 to $30.07 CAD per hour.
