Friendly Visitor Volunteer - St. Clare's Mercy Hospital

Friendly Visiting volunteers provide social interaction and friendly support to patients. Duties of the friendly visiting volunteer may include:

" Spending time with patients and keeping them company
" Offering to run errands for patients, providing reading materials and/or food/beverages (upon request and in consultation with nursing staff)
" Escorting the patient(s) in the building such as walking in the hallway, going to the Gift Shop etc.. Help with writing letters, playing board games, reading to them, etc.
" Engaging in activities meaningful to both the patient and the volunteer

Your time and commitment is valuable to us. Friendly visiting volunteers are often needed during the afternoon on weekdays and weekends. Any time you can contribute is appreciated. Discuss your interest and availability with the Volunteer Coordinator.
Friendly visiting volunteers should have effective and courteous verbal and non-verbal communication skills; be self-motivated and have a willingness and ability to work independently and as a team player; a willingness and ability to follow directions (i.e. from nursing staff, patients and their families); and be comfortable and confident interacting in a busy health care environment and in new social situations.
