Team & Job Overview

The International and Export Credit Agencies (“ECA”) Relations Team links EDC to various international fora in order to influence global policy agendas and rules-based frameworks in the strategic interests of Canadian exporters. The Team is the central manager of EDC’s relationships with foreign ECAs and multilateral institutions. The Team also plays a leading role in representing EDC’s interests and growing EDC’s strong reputation in various international fora, such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation (OECD) and Berne Union. In doing so, the Team works closely with the Canadian Government to proactively influence policies and practices of ECAs through active engagement in various international forums, ranging from technical financial issues to environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters. The Team is a trusted advisor, supporting the organization on a broad range of transaction, strategy, governance and other aspects of EDC’s business.

The team is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative individual with a passion for the advancement of a range of international policy issues impacting EDC and Canadian exporters. This individual will manage key relationships with our ECA peers around the world as well as with the Canadian Government and with subject matter experts within EDC. This individual should have a keen interest in multilateral organizations, international agreements, and international trade finance. In addition, the Advisor will be required to gather and share key trade financing and ECA intelligence to inform and help drive EDC strategic decisions and engagement. Most importantly, the new team member will embrace a high level of teamwork and help foster a spirit of camaraderie and high performance in this fast-paced team.

Responsibilities May Include, Among Others

  • Build and maintain a global network as EDC’s primary point-of contact with ECAs and key multilateral institutions to facilitate the exchange of information and to gather intelligence to inform EDC’s strategy.
  • Coordinate and engage in EDC’s strategic representation in multilateral fora such as the Berne Union, including support to EDC Executive in their ECA bilateral and multilateral engagements by providing advice and coordinating strategic agendas and producing briefing materials.
  • Advise on key files by building expertise and sourcing subject matter experts and data to develop EDC positions on a variety of files relating to international negotiations and ECA business issues (e.g. sustainable lending, interest rates and premia, financial structuring, and climate and other ESG-related issues).
  • Manage the team’s heavy balance of international reporting obligations (source internal subject matter experts, ensure accuracy, manage submissions) and analyze information provided by other ECAs to identify trends.
  • Provide export finance and Arrangement (“OECD Consensus”) interpretation advice to internal & external stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle and support the growth of this expertise across EDC’s business teams.
  • Source and analyse data to inform EDC positions on key international issues and to inform strategic decisions (e.g. product information, business volumes, sector and pricing analysis, ECA business intel, emerging export credit trends, etc.)
  • Work with internal teams to ensure corporate process and policies adhere to EDC’s international obligations.

Screening Criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Public Policy, International Relations or a related field or relevant experience
  • 3-5 years of experience with financing, transactional, advisory or business development experience
  • 3-5 years experience in public policy, international affairs, stakeholder relations or other related experience
  • Good understanding of trade finance products, international commitments and obligations
  • Good understanding of export credit and the product lifecycle process (Business Development, Underwriting, Loans Services, Asset Management)
  • Keen interest in international affairs and trade finance
  • Proven experience in cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong digital literacy and data visualization skills (including Excel, Power BI)

Skills & Knowledge

  • Teamwork and ability to build effective collaborative relationships
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Good understanding of EDC’s (or comparable trade finance) products and policies
  • Strong financial literacy and knowledge of trade finance practices
  • Solid knowledge of international business practices, international trade, export credit agencies, Multilateral Development Banks and key organizations such as the OECD, WTO and/or IMF
  • Solutions-oriented with reliance on creative and strategic thinking
  • Influencing skills through diplomacy and influencing without authority
  • Data analysis skills and knowledge of organizational and external data systems (i.e. MBC, C3, Power BI, Excel)
  • Proven ability to manage fast-paced projects and multiple priorities

Assets

  • Bilingual in both official languages (French and English)
  • Strong stablished network across various EDC teams
  • Previous policy formulation, negotiation and/or diplomatic experience
  • Experience in subject matter pertaining to underwriting
  • Data analytics and visualization skills

Salary Range

  • Stakeholder Relations 17: Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $81,012 To $108,017.

Location

  • Export Development Canada is a hybrid work environment.
  • This role may be performed from the Community Hub in Ottawa or Toronto.
