Position Overview

ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a General Labourer who will be responsible for processing, moving, sorting, cutting, and packaging pieces of scrap metal and vehicles for transport out of our Abbotsford, B.C. yard. This person will also be responsible for ensuring the yard is clean and always well maintained, ensuring safety standards are met, and attending the scale house for about 10-20% of the week.

Responsibilities

  • Receives metals from customer and assist in unloading if required.
  • Greets customers and record their relevant information for processing in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Processes customer payment tickets using various payment methods
  • Assesses and weigh various types and grades of non-ferrous metals.
  • Maximizes mix loads of scrap from customers by sorting, high-grading and segregating accordingly.
  • Ensures property, facilities, and equipment remain in good order.
  • Communicates with customers and ensure they receive professional service.
  • Cuts larger too thick pieces of metal into smaller marketable pieces.
  • Loads and unloads trailers using a forklift.
  • Drains fluids from vehicles and prepares them for baling.
  • Dismantles scrap materials and remove high value metals from them.
  • Ensures property, facilities, and equipment remain in good order.
  • Maintains inventory controls by collecting stock location orders, printing requests, recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed through a computer.
  • May also assist in counting of physical inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience with sorting and allocating non-ferrous metals, preferably in a busy, high volume scrap yard is considered an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of non-ferrous types and grades and able to assess and allocate most scrap by visual inspection
  • Ability to use a forklift or skid steer is an asset
  • Knowledgeable about general safety practices
  • Willingness to work in an outdoor environment (rain or shine)
  • Able to communicate professionally.

Important

We frequently operate on and service federally regulated customers that require regular and random drug and alcohol screening (including suppliers and contractors). As such, you will also be subject to an initial and then ongoing random drug and alcohol screening as a condition of your employment.
