This leadership role is responsible for the day-to-day management of a team of regional Underwriters. Proving leadership to shape departments goals, coaching and development of team members to achieve individual performance objectives are critical for this role. Reporting to the Manager, National Underwriting Operations, the Team Leader, NUO will ensure service excellence is delivered to our brokers and appropriate underwriting decisions are made to drive underwriting profitability.

What will you do?


  • Lead a team of Underwriters and associates by supporting individual performance objectives, providing consistent coaching & mentoring, and creating performance plans for career development with team members to meet individual goals.
  • Apply expert underwriting knowledge and judgement on individual risks to drive profitability.
  • Review escalated risks presented in alignment with the assigned underwriting authority and in accordance with published rules and rates while providing effective and creative broker solutions.
  • Engage in conversations with internal and external stakeholders to articulate corporate direction, goals and plans and create collaborative conversation to achieve results.
  • Engage in broker enablement initiatives in collaboration with business development.
  • Provide support to team of operations associates supporting broker workflows.
  • Understand corporate and departmental goals, engage team members, and create alignment with overall corporate and departmental direction.
  • Lead and manage workflow processes for calls and transactions in a fast-paced environment to ensure SLAs for the department are met or exceeded.


What will you need to succeed?


  • Required, minimum 5 years of personal insurance experience.
  • Preferred, 2 Years of People leadership experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively coach and develop team members.
  • Accuracy, thoroughness, creativity, and strong attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger picture.


Permanent, Full-Time

We’re a hybrid team that thrives on the energy and value of in-office collaboration. This role offers the best of both worlds, with 3 days a week spent in our vibrant office in Cambridge Ontario.
