The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Business Partnerships General Manager (GM), to join our Information & Operational Technology team.

This is a permanent hybrid position located in Toronto, Canada or Belo Horizonte, Brazil depending on the current location of the successful candidate.

The General Manager, ITOT Business Partnerships (GM, ITOT BP) will serve as a critical interlock between the business and the ITOT function. You will work closely with senior leaders across the Vale Base Metals organization to define and initiate the execution of the ITOT functional strategy and investments roadmap based on business needs and priorities. You will have an intimate understanding of the Vale Base Metals (VBM) industry, business strategy, required capabilities, as well as all functions and operations across the globe. This knowledge will inform the ITOT strategy and roadmap that will be build in close collaboration with the rest of the ITOT Leadership team.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Accountable for the development and management of relationships across the business and operations, ensuring alignment between the ITOT strategy and Vale Base Metal (VBM) business strategy.
  • Accountable for building a holistic ITOT investment portfolio for all VBM business processes (i.e., commercial, mine operations, corporate functions, etc.), ensuring alignment with the business strategy and measuring / monitoring value delivered to the business.
  • Design and execute the ITOT function roadmap based on business priorities, working closely with senior leadership across the organization and the GM, Office of CIO.
  • Own intake and demand management processes and governance, consolidating and prioritizing demand intake from BPs into a roadmap to ensure alignment with short-term and long-term business objectives; turn intake into a cohesive ITOT roadmap and portfolio of investments across Vale Base Metals.
  • Gather high-level business requirements and define scope during initial discovery by conducting meeting / interviews with partners; serve as the ultimate resolver for the prioritization of demand for the product and service backlog in cases of dispute or conflict.
  • Ensure that VBM ITOT is prepared sufficiently to adapt to the demand accepted from various groups by working closely with various stakeholders within and outside ITOT including Head of Architecture, Project & Program Delivery (PMO), Vale SA ITOT Team, VBM and Vale CTO leadership, VBM Strategy team, Finance etc.
  • Oversee the budget allocated for ITOT initiatives across the business to ensure resources and projects are allocated appropriately.
  • Coach and manage a team of ITOT Business Partners (BPs)immersed in the business / operations area they are responsible of. The BPs will collaborate with the business area to prioritize demand and drive value from investments in ITOT solutions in that specific area.
  • Support the BP team to ensure that the service provided to the end user follows the needs of the business, market trends, is safe and competitive and in line with the standards, methodologies, KPIs, and contracts defined by the specialist areas.
  • Partner with the business and the Office of the CIO to identify innovative opportunities for leveraging technology that can add value, reduce risk and / or drive efficiencies for the business; oversee the planning and execution of pilot projects and push for scaling successful pilots.
  • Accountable for the risk profile of the ITOT functional strategy, tech roadmap, and tech solutions prioritized and delivered to the business.

About You

Education:

  • An Undergraduate Degree in Business, Commerce or Engineering.
  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA) is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years management experience.
  • Experience in Management Consulting and/or heavy industries (Mining, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas etc.) with a strong intersection between business and technology.
  • Experience in companies with global and complex structure.
  • Experience in managing senior leadership relationships internally and externally.
  • Extensive experience leading complex programs, cross-functional organizations and situations with many stakeholders.

Skills:

  • Deep functional and/or industrial domain expertise.
  • Strong sense of business acumen, influential capabilities, and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent executive communication, presentation, and leadership skills to articulate and highlight business value of technology products and services.
  • Ability to manage a strong team with deep domain expertise in various business areas from Finance to Commercial and from Mining and Processing to Logistics.
  • Robust strategic planning and demand management capabilities.
