The University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) system is the largest academic library in Canada and is fourth among peer institutions in North America. The system consists of 42 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of 300 graduate programs, over 70 professional programs, and more than 700 undergraduate degree programs. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries data centre houses more than 200 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.
Your opportunity:
Scholars Portal, a department of the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL), is the digital service arm of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), managing infrastructure and services that support Ontario’s 21 university libraries. The Scholars Portal team of librarians, developers, and systems staff support services in four broad areas: research and member services; data and geospatial services; digital collections; and digital preservation services.
As a System Administrator - Security, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of research data in the platform. You will collaborate with IT professionals, library staff, researchers,and other stakeholders to design, implement, and maintain robust features, workflows, and security protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in programming, data management, and cybersecurity, with a passion for supporting cutting-edge research initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and programming network applications
- Configuring system applications according to needs
- Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
- Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
- Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists
Essential Qualifications:
(Minimum)
- Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years.
- Demonstrable experience in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, React, SQL).
- Knowledge of data management best practices. Experience with data repository or system development.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and practices.
- Knowledge of data encryption and secure data transfer protocols.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data storage solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure)

USW Pay Band 14 -- $90,056. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $115,169. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
