Role Responsibilities

Are you a strategic and dedicated leader? Are you passionate about collaborating with stakeholders and promoting affordable housing initiatives? If so, the Housing Division within the Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) has an exciting opportunity for you as the Manager Intergovernmental.

Reporting to the Director, Planning & Analytics, the Manager Intergovernmental plays an important role in leading affordable housing initiatives, maintaining and negotiating federal/provincial funding agreements, providing in-depth analysis of housing programs, and foster strong working relationships with key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead intergovernmental relations, providing strategic support, guidance, and direction on intergovernmental issues and committees (e.g. Federal, Provincial, Territorial, and Municipal).
  • Lead system discussions with key stakeholder groups (e.g. housing management bodies, non-profit organizations, municipal governments, Indigenous groups, private sector organizations) on strategies to further the goals and objectives of the provincial government.
  • Research and provide interpretation of housing program information to identify trends and systemic pressures and issues.
  • Generate management level reporting and analysis to understand how housing programs are achieving the goals and objectives of the provincial government.
  • Provide strategic supporting to senior leadership within the Ministry of SCSS to prepare for cross-jurisdictional negotiations on agreements involving millions of dollars in federal funding for affordable housing in Alberta.
  • Assist the Director by providing services, such as consultation, advising, and coordination. Ensure that resources are planned and managed to deliver outcomes effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in a related field, such as Social Sciences, Public Administration, and Public Policy, plus a minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible related experience including supervisory experience.


Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Assets:

  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic advice to projects and interprovincial groups and departmental staff.
  • Comprehensive knowledge about the mandates and political directions of the provincial government.
  • Demonstrated experience in areas related to Alberta affordable housing system and housing systems in other provinces/territories.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze relevant policies, emerging issues, trends, and opportunities. Present findings and recommendations in concise oral and written forms.

Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday – Friday
