Are you ISL’s next Lead of Environmental Services? We are seeking a collaborative risk mitigator that can anticipate environmental risks to infrastructure, transportation and other projects in British Columbia.

ISL’s BC Environmental Services team is a truly integrated environmental management team that delivers service in an un-siloed manner. We are a growing team looking for our next lead who will help to shape and grow this team and work collaboratively across the organization.

Your cover letter must demonstrate:

Your Resume Should Show Us

  • Bachelor of Science in biology, aquatic biology, zoology, botany, environmental science, forestry, environmental engineering, forestry, or other applicable applied science
  • Registered as a R.P.Bio or eligible
  • At minimum 7 years of progressive experience focusing on advising on environmental impacts assessment/effects assessment process and methods
  • Experience either informal or formal leading and/or mentoring a team of professionals
  • Experience in a consulting environment preferred
  • Solid knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal environmental regulatory review processes including regulations, guidelines, and standards
  • Use of quantitative methods for assessing, vegetation, wildlife, water quality, surface water and fish habitat

Bonus Points For

  • Experience in an applied environmental consulting setting in BC, particularly focused on civil engineering projects.

A Little More About The Role

The successful candidate will report to either our Burnaby or Langley office locations. While no two days will be alike, here is what you can expect from the role:

Project Management And Business Development

  • Lead an environmental team in the delivery of environmental services both internally and externally
  • Represent ISL at various industry events and grow and expand environmental services in the region
  • Set strategic direction for the business unit
  • Provide environmental expertise in preparation of environmental regulatory approvals, permits and other needed authorizations
  • Overall project management of multiple disciplinary projects across the BC region
  • Formulate proposals, detailing project scope, schedule, and fees.
  • Develop and work within project budgets to deliver high-quality environmental consulting assignments
  • Prepare appropriate reports, mitigation strategies, and regulatory applications while applying strong understanding of the Water Sustainability Act, Water Sustainability Regulation Notifications, DFO Request for Reviews, Impact Assessment Act submittals

Technical Expertise And Reporting

  • Conduct research and prepare technical reports
  • Provide environmental expertise in preparation of EA, EIA, and environmental regulatory approval or authorization applications
  • Preparation of reports describing current site conditions and preparing mitigation and offsetting designs.
  • Prepare and review environmental management plans.
  • Develop study designs and workplans based in sound applied science for aquatic, terrestrial, wetland, and/or vegetation field investigations.
  • Coordinate and implement environmental assessments and impact assessments.
  • Develop project Tender specifications
  • Senior Environmental Monitoring and liaison with site personnel

Mentorship And Team Leadership

  • Assist ISL’s biologists, environmental scientists and technicians in the delivery of environmental assessment, environmental impact assessments and construction environmental monitoring.
  • Supervising, coordinating, and mentoring staff.

Depending on your experience level, the salary range for this position (based on a 40-hour work week) is:

  • $115,000 - $125,000
