AECOM is seeking a passionate Community Engagement and Communication Coordinator to be based in Kitchener, Ontario to ensure tremendous outcomes from the work we do with our clients. This is a permanent full-time position. This position will report to the Manager, Community Engagement & Communication, and can be based at any of our Canadian offices.

As part of the Environment Business Line, in the Impact Assessment and Permitting Group, on the Community Engagement and Communications Team, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff. This position is accountable for driving, planning, and carrying out community engagement and communication plans, working collaboratively with specialist teams as part of environmental assessment (EA), impact assessment, and permitting processes, and contributing to the development of our strategic community engagement and communication practice.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting multi-disciplinary teams and project managers to develop strategic communication and community engagement plans and activities on behalf of our clients.
  • Supporting tracking and reporting on the results of consultation and engagement.
  • Assisting with public and stakeholder engagement activities and tactics, including in-person and virtual workshops, advisory committees, community meetings, and public open houses.
  • Supporting the development of communication materials including key messages, FAQs, presentations, notices, storyboards, and discussion guides.

 



Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Environmental Planning, or other related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree or professional designation is preferred (such as Communication, or Environmental Planning), although proven practical experience is essential.
  • At least 2 years working in a similar role in the public or private sectors.
  • At least 2 years of professional writing experience including plain language, AODA, web content, internal, and external communications. 
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; this role requires continuous interaction with team leaders, client management, and the public.
  • A valid driver's license and access to transportation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and remotely if required.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian regulatory and policy context, Federal and Provincial Impact Assessment processes - including leading practice in communication and engagement and/ or Indigenous engagement and participation.
  • Being bilingual in English and French would be an asset
  • Experience with government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis, and facilitation.
  • Strong knowledge of project coordination/ management concepts and processes.
  • Membership in or accreditation from IAP2, CPRS, IABC, IAF is an asset.
