About the Role:

Cyient has an immediate opening for a Field Technician in our Telecommunications Business Unit. The ideal candidate will be responsible for Outside Plant (OSP) field data collection in Ontario and surrounding providences. You will visit multiple job locations daily and record and analyze existing field conditions related to Telecom poles, Aerial/Underground structures and Street/Right of Way measurements for future/current fiber designs and equipment locations. With support, you will perform field surveys (ISP/OSP) and take detailed notes/photos/sketch of on-site findings. You will assist Design Specialists by providing detailed feedback of potential cable path and/or site survey. You will conduct utility and right of way research; read and interpret utility plans, DOT records, property / easement data, civil design blueprints, survey documents, or sketches; proofing or comparing the information contained on GIS maps/drawings with information from different sources such as Google Earth, including data and measurements collected from the field. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager in Toronto, Ontario.

You must be able to travel up to 95% of the time, often for extended periods of time. Food & lodging will be paid for by the company. Mileage reimbursement will be paid when a personal vehicle is used.

You Will:

  • Travel to multiple job locations daily to review proposed fiber facilities, telecom infrastructure locations, and designs for field accuracy and propose adjustments when needed.
  • Take field measurements and photos of utility poles, equipment, cables, proposed equipment cabinets/boxes and street dimensions.
  • Collaborate with the associated permit team to review and submit encroachment permits to various state and municiple authorities, department of transportation, railroads, pipelines, etc.
  • Walk and work outdoors daily, in most weather conditions.


You'll Need:

  • a minimum of 1+ years of experience with utility construction in an outside plant environment is preferred.
  • Experience with telecom/utility poles, and MDU/HFC/BAU field surveys is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with existing and proposed telecom equipment locations.
  • 1+ years of experience reading and analyzing utility work prints is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with aerial, underground or buried telecom infrastructure is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with IKE GPS or related pole survey equipment handling is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
