Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a Surface Material Auditor who will be responsible for continually supporting and enhancing the Regulatory Audit and Investigation Service within the Crown Land Enforcement Branch. The audit program ensures surface material disposition holders (i.e. sand and gravel operators) implement adequate environmental reporting systems, and accurately measure and report volumes of surface materials extracted from public land. This position will ensure compliance with public lands legislation by verifying disposition holders correctly report surface material volume extracted and pay the associated royalties due to the Crown.

Reporting to the Team Lead – Crown Land Audit Unit, the Surface Material Auditor impacts not only the economic returns that Albertans receive for the use of those surface materials, but also the long-term management and sustainability of public lands.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with the development and delivery of the provincial surface materials audit program including developing relevant training and educational material for operators reporting surface material extraction.
• Supporting the development of standards and guidelines that ensure materials extracted from public land are accurately reported and Albertans receive the appropriate economic return for the use of those materials.
• Ensuring complex policy and administration issues pertaining to the measurement and reporting of surface materials extracted from public land are identified and resolved.
• Reporting on the adequacy and effectiveness of environmental management plans intended to control site specific conditions such as erosion, sediment control and water drainage.

Qualifications

Required:
• A completed University degree in Environmental Sciences, Geology, or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of related field experience in regulatory, compliance and/or environmental inspections.
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.

Equivalencies may be considered: Related 2-year diploma plus 6 years of related experience. Additional related education considered in lieu of experience, one year for one year.

Assets
• Experience in administering applicable government legislation, regulations, and policies (i.e. Public Lands Act, Water Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act).
• Experience in environmental auditing or project management.
• Experience with spatial and electronic data systems, including GIS, GPS, and databases.
• Experience working outdoors in remote locations.

Notes

This competition is for 1 full-time 2-year temporary position located in Edmonton.

Monday – Friday, 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week.

This position requires field / outdoor work with travel of up to 25%.
