What you can expect from this position:

This position is responsible for the effective management and continuous improvement of the planning and execution of the capital budget annual cycle prioritization processes for each business unit. The Manager, Capital Finance will provide resource and business support to the Chief Financial Officer for financial and analytics for the annual Capital Plan, forecasts, business case development; post implementation review, and ad-hoc requests. This is a highly visible role that require development of partnership relationships with directors and other decision makers. This position will help the organization in making major capital investment decision and review projects after complete.

As a Manager, Capital Finance, you will be responsible for:


  • Planning and coordinating the annual capital planning cycle
  • Leading planning process, continuous improvement and modernization, including implementing best practices and new technology
  • Being actively involved in the preparation of annual capital planning including development of 5 Year Strategic Capital Plans, through coordination with relevant Business Unit stakeholders and other Finance roles to ensure strategic initiatives are accurately reflected and align with organizational performance goals
  • Providing oversight and manages business unit deliverables on a timely basis with respect to annual planning process
  • Acting as a subject matter expert with respect to the Capital Planning processes and a key resource who assists and provides clear and concise guidance to the various Business Unit(s) VPs, Directors, Associate Directors and Managers
  • Analyzing and interpreting key aviation activity forecasts with a keen understanding as to how these activities drive Capital Decision within the Business Unit(s)
  • Ensuring that capital initiatives considered for budget link to the formalized strategic goals/priorities and business plans
  • Providing feedback on planning submissions and other financial documents from the business units and providing support for the long-term capital and infrastructure planning, and financial strategy
  • Managing and enforcing the Project Funding Approval (PFA) process and provide improvement recommendations
  • Organizing and synthetizing information, big picture assembly at corporation level
  • Owning the corporate capital systems and data – input and output (reports, models, analysis, schedules, etc.)
  • Providing quality assurance for PFA packages in terms of relevancy, completeness and accuracy; acts as the gatekeeper in the approval process before the director and executive levels
  • Assisting in educating and holding business unit management and staff accountable with respect to financial policies, processes, procedures, and deliverables
  • Ensuring proposed projects are aligned to strategic goals and in support of approved business plans
  • Providing customer guidance & support; assembles training materials and provides training to customers on a regular basis
  • Organizing and provides training to stakeholders - key contact for capital planning support and guidance
  • Providing advice on business case development, capital plans submissions and other planning documents
  • Developing, creating and maintaining financial models to support business planning processes while at the same time providing meaningful and insightful recommendations leading to sound balanced decision making
  • Committing to and role modelling the GTAA Leadership Behaviours to support and further the business’ vision through the build and development of diverse, multi-skilled teams


The salary for this management position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

This is the role for you, if you have:


  • A post-secondary degree with a concentration in Business/Commerce, Accounting, Economics or Finance
  • Completed or are working towards a CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) or MBA (preferred)
  • 5+ years’ experience in Capital Planning, financial analysis, forecasting
  • 5+ years’ experience in building dynamic financial modeling
  • Prior industry experience (aviation, transportation, etc.) in a financial context (preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in People Management (direct report or cross-functional) preferred
  • The ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

  • Excellent, analytical, written and verbal communications skills with a strong experience of stakeholder management and customer/client focus
  • Very strong Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to build sophisticated financial models and conduct sensitivity analysis
  • Well-developed problem solving and financial analytical skills with a proven track record of delivering accurate results on a timely basis
  • Ability to assess and understand current and future business requirements and extrapolate financial impacts of these initiatives
  • Familiarity with Financial ERP reporting systems such as Oracle, Hyperion/Essbase, Project Management Software and fully proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products including Excel model building functionality and development
  • High level of competence with respect to developing quality presentations via PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate and build relationships with various levels of the organization acting as a key resource
  • Ability to present complex information professionally in a confident, clear and concise manner
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy along with a capacity to be proactive is essential for success in this role
  • An effective trainer able to provide required training when skill gaps are identified
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a dynamic fast-paced environment
  • Ability to drive key process improvements and effectively manage priorities and ambiguity
  • Strong management, leadership and organizational skills, with experience working cross functionally in a complex environment
