The Opportunity
The Director Business Development participates in developing strategies and objectives for the business through the identification, evaluation and execution of existing and new business growth opportunities. This position is accountable for generating leads that assist with successful completion and deal closure while maintaining and enhancing business relationships with existing customers.

As the ideal candidate, you have proven experience in successfully generating solid growth opportunities, executing deals, and understanding of broader market fundamentals. Your strong negotiation and communication skills along with your competitive drive will be leveraged daily. You are energized when faced with ambiguity and can adjust your approach – with people and problems – to respond efficiently and effectively in changing conditions. Your creativity and ability to learn emerging markets, while identifying key opportunities, will foster the ability to add value each day.
What You'll Be Doing
- Maintain a detailed understanding of all existing operations across Gibson Energy’s asset base.
- Maintain understanding of broader fundamentals across the energy industry and grow understanding of emerging market fundamentals in the energy transition space.
- Leverage market understanding to originate new infrastructure opportunities within strategy.
- Maintain and grow a strong external contact portfolio across multiple industry products.
- Ability to collaborate effectively cross functionally across various internal business units.
- Capability to drive projects through origination, internal evaluation, negotiation, project approval, construction, and in-service.
- Negotiate letters of intent, memoranda of understanding, contracts and acquisition agreements.
- Strong proficiency when communicating with senior executives on a regular basis.
- Work closely with Operations and Commercial groups to identify opportunities to increase revenues associated with both Gibson and 3rd Party ongoing business.
- Actively manage and report on the achievement of business development targets as well as industry performance and trends.
- Representation in industry groups and committees.
- Perform customer account analysis and revenue maximization.
- Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- University degree or diploma in related field.
- Minimum 10 – 15 years of business development and/or sales experience or equivalent of education and experience.
- Proven business development/sales experience with strong results in origination of new projects.
- Knowledge of renewable energy sources and traditional crude oil, condensate, natural gas liquids, and refined products markets and assets.
- Experience in developing and presenting thorough proposals both to customers, executives, and board members.
- Ability to persuade, convince, influence others for the purpose of achieving desired results.
- Proven ability to successfully build trust and rapport with customers.
Working Conditions
- This is an office-based position in Calgary, Alberta.
- Periodic travel to company / customer locations within Canada and the United States.
