Purpose
The Vice President, Corporate Lending Services (The VP), provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight to the Lending Services team, which supports lending activities in Canada, US, Europe, Asia, and the offshore book in International Banking, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Leads GWO Lending Services teams to ensure prompt and accurate delivery of corporate loans to the Bank’s clients. Includes support for syndicated loans (agency & participation), corporate loans (bilateral), and traded loans.
Accountabilities
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Ensures that the Lending Services strategy is aligned with GWO’s strategy.
- Ensures that operational risks (including AML/ATF and Sanctions) are assessed and contained, while executing deals/transactions within the products and regions under scope. Also ensures that senior management is aware of any potential breaches in risks promptly, taking containment/remedial action as appropriate.
- Responsible for ensuring all time sensitive and critical work is completed by the team or escalated for proper resolution.
- Responsible for designing metrics/KPIs/KRIs and ensuring reporting on metrics/KPIs/KRIs is done in a timely manner. Responsible for tracking and meeting Service Level Agreement (SLA) metrics for the BNS entities Lending Services supports.
- As product owner, leads ongoing change and transformation for the lending system used by the team (ACBS/LoanIQ).
- Leads ongoing innovation/transformation of operational lending processes that supports GBM Corporate Banking.
- Ensures adequate processes and controls are in place to manage the operational risk of the lending operations.
- Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education / Experience
- MBA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent designation.
- 10+ years of experience in lending operations.
- Knowledge of corporate credit and corporate lending would be an asset.
- Awareness of lending regulations, AML/ATF/Sanctions regulations
- Strong knowledge of the primary technologies, products, and markets in which GWO’s business partners operate and the core processes to support those.
- Extensive experience interacting with senior executives and managing relationships with key contacts inside and outside the Bank.
