This is a diverse and complex technical position where support work is performed within a large scale and diverse municipal GIS environment. This position will provide technical GIS expertise in a variety of assignments such as data maintenance, data export, data creation and final cartographic production and delivery.

This highly technical position will be required to perform computer-aided tasks such as CAD and GIS data maintenance / exports, data analysis, graphics production, and other complex functions and technical support tasks.

The work performed is under the supervision of professional technical staff, who provide assignment and instructions, guidance and assistance when required, and check work for technical soundness, quality and quantity on an ongoing basis.

What will you do?

  • This position will be responsible for the maintenance of datasets in the enterprise geodatabase for a variety of GIS features such as road network, addressing, public safety, transportation, parks, annotation & labels, and administrative areas.
  • This involves reading and interpreting engineering and planning documents, uses of GIS and CAD software to input the information into the correct spatial location with appropriate attribution, as well as reviewing / analyzing data to ensure a ccuracy
  • Coordinating with other departments to ensure accuracy of the information and that drawings are delivered in a timely manner
  • This position will be responsible for accepting and interpreting data requests from the public, city staff and consultants
  • They will be responsible for the creation of license agreements
  • This position will create and share maps to support city operations and the public. Examples of the maps are: Parks and Road Services Mapping, other Department specific mapping, maps to support engineering studies, standard city wide mapping
  • Expertise in a variety of software to ensure appropriate map creation is completed. (Examples: FME, Adobe Pro, ArcGIS Pro, AutoCad, ArcGIS Enterprise portal)
  • Other related responsibilities


Qualifications:

  • Completion of a 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, GIS diploma or a related diploma program from a recognized Post Secondary Educational Facility such as an Institute of Technology or Community College with appropriate specialization relative to the job posting
  • Minimum of 2 years directly related experience in the area of GIS spatial analysis, GIS data maintenance and Cartography


Assets:

  • Course work in GIS or diploma in GIS technology is an asset


Skills required for success:

  • GIS terminology, CAD terminology, GIS and CAD software
  • High level of comfort using GIS and CAD software
  • Excellent customer service work well with others, work well under pressure with imminent deadlines, good communication and time management skills
  • ArcGIS Pro (Model Builder, Branch Versioning, File Geodatabases, and Azure SQL Server)
  • Address Data Management Solution
  • Road Network Data Management Solution
  • ArcGIS Enterprise portal (Layers, Groups, Maps, Web Apps)
  • Experience working with FME workbench, FME Server, Autodesk AutoCAD

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week

Salary Range: $39.153 - $49.215 (Hourly)
