Candidate Profile:
The Structural Restoration Engineer in RJC’s Water and Wastewater team is responsible for formulating, developing, and communicating structural remediation concepts, and repair designs to our clients. The work can take the form of on-site testing and assessment, repair and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure and industrial facilities, design of structural upgrades and strengthening measures, and coordination with facility managers and other consultants to deliver successful structural repair and protection projects.
The successful candidate is comfortable working with clients, communicating with contractors, and working on industrial construction sites. A commitment to providing highly-responsive and first-rate client service is essential, as is the technical excellence to develop and deliver practical solutions. An inquisitive and passionate outlook, a focused worker who readily assumes responsibility, and a team player who has the ability to work independently yet collaboratively, are traits that are considered essential for this role. Previous hands-on structural restoration engineering and construction experience are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and deliver structural rehabilitation projects - from the initial assessment phase to conceptual design, and through completion of construction.
- Perform site evaluations and written engineering assessment reports.
- Analysis, technical design, preparation of documents for structural repair and protection measures.
- Field review of repair contractor’s work, together with our in-house team of engineers and technologists, to provide quality assurance on the owner’s behalf.
- Collaborate with our other in-house experts, resources and task groups to solve project challenges and contribute to RJC’s ongoing growth and technical expertise.
Education:
- Degree in civil engineering from an accredited university. A Master’s degree specializing in structural engineering is considered an asset.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
- 3-6 years of relevant industry experience, including in-depth technical knowledge in the investigation, analysis, design, and repair of existing structures and protection systems.
- Experience should include in-depth expertise with structural materials such as reinforced concrete, pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete; structural steel, wood, and masonry. Includes expertise with structural protection assemblies such as specialized coatings for wastewater treatment exposures, waterproofing materials, expansion joints, sealants and other systems.
- Proven technical expertise in structural assessment, restoration, and protection.
- Understanding of relevant industry codes and guidelines, such as ACI 562-21, ACI 364.1R-19, and NBCC-Commentary L, for the assessment and repair of existing structures.
- Strong attention to technical detail, proven ability to produce accurate, high-quality project deliverables.
- Proven ability to conceptualize and design effective and creative solutions that work, with a strong emphasis on practical and constructible structural repair measures.
- Highly responsive, with an inherent desire to provide exceptional customer service.
- Demonstrated effective written, graphical, and verbal communication skills.
- Physical ability to perform office and field-related tasks, including but not limited to safely undertaking review and inspection work on active construction sites and in-service facilities, performing work in varying environmental conditions and exposures, performing work at heights and in confined spaces, and the ability to understand and appreciate safety requirements specific to industrial workplace, construction and site hazards.
- Additional safety training in CSTS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection will be required and provided.
