Talk With Me provides a continuum of speech-language pathology services at the community level, with a strong emphasis on capacity building in promotion, prevention, and early identification for pre-school children (birth to 5 years old).

The Opportunity:

Position: Speech Language Pathologist I

Department: Talk With Me - Anglophone East School District

Internal/External: Internal/External

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time (1.0 FTE)

Union: NBUPPE

Hours: 36.25 hours per week

Reports to: The Director of Early Childhood Services or designate.

Location: The office is located in Moncton. Travel will be required throughout the communities of the Anglophone East School District catchment.

DEFINITION

This is professional work in the field of speech language pathology. Employees of this class perform clinical work, according to professional standards and district policies and procedures, involving the screening, identification, assessment, interpretation, diagnosis, and prevention of communication disorders.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop education sessions and programs for parents and community partners as required;
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with community partners (eg. Family and Early Childhood agencies, Early Learning and Childcare facilities, Public Health);
  • As requested by the Early Childhood Regional Director, may be asked to be the subject matter expert or contributor on various working groups, projects or consultation teams with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD);
  • Train, orientate and provide clinical supervision to the Speech Therapy Assistants as required by the rules and regulations of the profession;
  • Work independently utilizing effective time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work assignments based on the needs of the team;
  • Communicate effectively with team, parents, and community partners;
  • Demonstrate an interest and comfort level in working with young children and families (willing and able to facilitate groups of adults and preschool children, i.e. including singing in front of adults);
  • Work a flexible schedule (to better serve our clients, working in the evening or on weekends is sometimes required);
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, email, PowerPoint, Publisher, Social Media, etc.
  • Keep up to date on certifications and professional learning as required;
  • Physical expectations:
  • Prepare, set up, and clean up materials and equipment (in collaboration with the Speech Therapy Assistants);
  • Travel to various communities within the district.
  • Carry large or heavy materials and equipment (across parking lots, in buildings and upstairs).
  • Sit at the children's level and be able to get down on the floor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from a recognized university.
  • Registered and a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists and eligible for membership with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada.
  • A valid class 5 driver's license issued by the Province of New Brunswick and own use of transportation are required.
  • Employees shall be selected on the basis of skill, ability and qualifications. Where skill, qualifications and ability are relatively equal amongst union applicants, the vacancy will be filled on the basis of seniority.

Salary: In accordance with the New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees-Professional Support Group Collective Agreement, $2,837.01 to 3,572.49 bi-weekly.

Schedule: 12-Month position. Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours. Some work outside of these hours may occasionally be required.
