The Halifax Grammar School (Grammar) is seeking an experienced, dedicated, and task-focused full-time Coordinator of Maintenance & Facilities.

This position is part of the Facilities team, with a mandate to ensure the school is safe and functioning well for the everyday needs of its users, both internal and external on a year-round basis. The Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Projects & Facilities.

The Coordinator is responsible for the basic maintenance and repair of the Grammar including maintaining physical safety standards for the exterior, interior and vital systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical) and other related duties.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of related experience in Facilities Operations
  • Working knowledge of building systems, plumbing, electrical, HVAC etc
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work requests, instructions, drawings, schematics and procedures
  • Working knowledge of safe handling of hand and power tools is required
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • A valid NS driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Technical certifications are desirable, but not essential

They must have strong organizational skills, a high attention to detail and effective communication skills. They must be reliable and possess a customer-service orientation with a proactive, flexible can-do attitude.

The candidate must be capable of standing, walking, and bending for extended periods and can perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
