Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant post-secondary diploma or certification in Medical Laboratory Assistant (or equivalent) and have certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • In addition, you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid, CPR and discipline relevant safety training or you have a willingness to obtain within the first year.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in Medical Laboratory Assistant in a broad range of clinical laboratory settings.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, and E-Mail.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.

  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to laboratory processes including document management and Laboratory Information Systems.
  • You have a proven ability to complete required tasks within a defined timeframe independently and with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

  • You will provide laboratory/shop, program and administrative support for the Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • You will maintain the laboratory/shop by managing the lab/shop environment, media and/or equipment preparation, and maintenance of the inventory system for lab/shop supplies. Additionally, you will assist with lab/shop demonstrations; provide administrative preparation for the lab/shop, assist with technology needs, including computers; and work with students, Faculty and staff in a laboratory/shop setting.
  • You will also assist in classroom and lab/shop demonstrations and prepare projects and mock-ups in advance of the need. You will assist Faculty with the safe operation of tools and equipment and safe work practices.
