Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Planning and Production (SPP), the French Translation and Editing Supervisor provides leadership, coordination, and guidance to ensure the editing and translation of kindergarten to Grade 12 provincial curriculum and curriculum-related products meets quality and established standards. The French Translation and Editing Supervisor provides direct supervision to the French editing/translation team and ensures that work is completed effectively and efficiently, within time and budget constraints.

The role must coordinate contracted translation services while adhering to department contractual solicitation procedures.

As French Translation and Editing Supervisor, you will be responsible for the following key activities in the Ministry:

1. Coordinate the editing and translation of French curriculum and curriculum-related products.

  • Ensure work is coordinated with priorities outlined in the Division operational plan.
  • Develop production processes that are both effective and efficient and align with the English production processes.
  • Prioritize assignments within the French editing team and coordinate work with other production units.

2.Supervise French editing team and provide leadership within the SPP team.

  • Provide day-to-day supervision and leadership to staff.
  • Complete all tasks related to recruiting, training, monitoring, and assessing staff


3. Establish quality-assurance criteria for editing and translating French products.

  • Provide professional editing and translation advice that conforms to division and departmental philosophies and standards.
  • Maintain expertise regarding current editorial industry and professional standards and procedures.


4. As a working supervisor, translate and/or edit curriculum and curriculum-related products as per established Branch production processes and specifications.

  • Provide new translations as required from English to French and from French to English. Review and finalize translated materials.
  • Complete a comparative reading of both the original text and the translation to verify the accuracy of content.
  • Provide linguistic consultation to those involved in the development of curricular materials.
  • Consistently follow the established division and/or branch production processes, templates, and style guides.

Se rapportant au ou à la gestionnaire, Strategic Planning and Production (SPP), le superviseur ou la superviseure de la traduction et de la révision en français assure le leadeurship, la coordination et l’encadrement nécessaires pour veiller à ce que la révision et la traduction du curriculum provincial de la maternelle à 12e année et les ressources connexes sont conformes aux normes de qualité et aux normes établies. Il ou elle assure la supervision directe de l’équipe responsable de la révision et de la traduction en français et veille à ce que le travail soit effectué de façon efficace et efficiente, dans le respect des délais et du budget. Le titulaire du poste est responsable de la coordination des services externes de traduction, tout en respectant les procédures d’appel d’offres du ministère.

En tant que superviseur ou superviseure de la traduction et de la révision en français, vous serez responsable des principales activités suivantes au sein du ministère :

1. Coordonner les services de révision et de traduction du curriculum en français et des ressources connexes.

  • Veiller à ce que le travail soit coordonné en fonction des priorités définies dans le plan opérationnel de la division;
  • Élaborer des processus de production efficaces et efficients qui s’harmonisent avec les processus de production en anglais;
  • Établir des priorités pour l’affectation du travail au sein de l’équipe de révision en français et coordonner le travail avec les autres unités de production.


2. Superviser l’équipe de traducteurs et réviseurs en français et assurer le leadeurship au sein de l’équipe de SPP.

  • Superviser et diriger le personnel au quotidien;
  • Accomplir toutes les tâches liées au recrutement, à la formation, à la gestion et à l’évaluation du personnel.


3. Établir des critères d’assurance de la qualité pour la révision et la traduction des documents en français.

  • Fournir des conseils professionnels en matière de révision et de traduction qui respectent les philosophies et les normes de la division et du ministère;
  • Maintenir une expertise concernant l’industrie éditoriale actuelle et les normes et les procédures professionnelles qui y sont liées.


4. En tant que superviseur ou superviseure, traduire et/ou réviser le curriculum et les ressources connexes conformément aux processus de production et aux spécifications établis par la direction.

  • Livrer de nouvelles traductions, le cas échéant, de l’anglais au français et du français à l’anglais.
  • Réviser et finaliser les documents traduits;
  • Effectuer une lecture comparative du texte original et de la traduction afin de vérifier l’exactitude du contenu;
  • Fournir des conseils linguistiques aux personnes participant à l’élaboration de ressources d’enseignement;
  • Respecter systématiquement les processus de production, les modèles et les guides de style établis par la division et/ou la direction

Qualifications

University graduation in Arts or a related field plus 4 years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


The position requires the following knowledge and experience:

  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Excellent French oral and written communication skills, including the ability to listen and present information effectively to individuals with diverse interests and backgrounds.
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills, including the ability to understand and present information effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict management, and relationship-building skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals as appropriate to the circumstances.
  • High level of experience with linguistic databases for terminology input and research.
  • Ability to effectively handle time pressures and conflicting priorities.
  • Information technology capabilities: SharePoint, Microsoft Office suite, video conferencing.
  • A translation certification from provincial or territorial professional association would be an asset.

  • Être agréé ou agréée en traduction auprès d’une association professionnelle provinciale ou territoriale serait un atout.
