The salary scale for Professional Support 3 is based on steps that range from $68,917.73 - $91,624.25. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $80,254.49 annually.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree in a related field such as ASL Studies, education, or social services.

  • You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent and relevant occupational experience in the development, marketing, delivery and evaluation of projects, or the recognized equivalencies. Preferred experience in coordinating programs in Deaf education or interpreting services.

  • Documented fluency in American Sign Language (ASLPI 4 or above).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture.

  • Experience supporting programs within diverse communities.

  • Occupational experience includes working in a learning or transition environment, delivering services that assist individuals in addressing barriers related to education, training and/or work.

  • Experience working in an adult learning environment and Deaf studies would be considered an asset.

  • Experience working in curriculum development would be considered an asset.

  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Mac, Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and video conferencing software (Zoom). You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.

  • You have the ability to communicate effectively in ASL and written English.

  • You have knowledge of interpreting programs, technologies and current trends in Deaf studies.

  • You have exceptional organizational skills, are detail oriented, self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Research skills with the proven ability to synthesize qualitative and quantitative data in order to propose recommendations for future programming.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, ASL & ASL English Interpretation Programming, you will:

  • Work alongside the Manager, ASL & ASL English Interpretation Programming, to plan, organize and coordinate a new externally funded learning program and support existing ASL programs.
  • Work effectively with multiple stakeholders including partner organizations in industry, government, community, and other academic institutions.
  • Collaborate with various departments within the college including Financial Services, Academic Services, Student Services, Admissions, Marketing and Communications, and Campus Operations.
  • Rely on good working knowledge of project management techniques and professional skills to support complex projects and meet required outcomes and timelines.
  • Plan and arrange multiple activities and classes, online and in-person, on-campus and off-campus.
  • Support projects and programs specifically designed for diverse members of the Deaf community including Black/African Nova Scotians, Indigenous, members of racially visible communities, persons with disabilities, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
