Why this role?

At Cohere, we are language-obsessed -- we believe that great writers are indispensable to our mission; to build machines that understand the world and make them safely accessible to all. Data quality is foundational to this process. Machines, or Large Language Models to be exact, learn in similar ways to humans - by way of feedback.

Our Copywriters and Copy Editors support our Data Quality Specialists, by editing their work and teaching the model new and creative ways to engage with our users. These core tasks ensure that all samples fed into our model are well written and in alignment with our style guide. This role will significantly impact Cohere's technology as all content produced will be crucial in enhancing the performance of our model for future iterations.

Please note: This is a part-time independent contractor position based remotely across Canada, and is BYOD - Bring Your Own Device (laptop). We are looking for candidates who are able to commit to a minimum of 12 hours of work per week, with the opportunity to take on additional hours if interested. Compensation for this role starts at $30 per hour, with the possibility of an increase in earnings through additional project engagements.

As a Copywriter / Copy Editor, You Will

• Create great writing samples - through meticulous writing, reading, and proofreading to train our data models. This involves a regular and repetitive process of creating, labeling, and improving both machine and human-written texts.
• Raise the bar by writing fresh copy on a variety of topics - this requires a consistent and ongoing effort to vary the voice, style, and other attributes of writing samples to meet our stringent standards.
• Evaluate and optimize responses - using preference-based tasks to assess and enhance response appropriateness, accuracy, and relevance. These tasks will enable our model to learn new patterns and make similar decisions when encountering new commands by our users.
• Rigorously follow our style guide - which outlines the preferred format, tone, and rules for our content. You will also participate in making new recommendations for unique situations that fall outside of its scope, requiring regular attention to detail and consistent citing of information sources.
• Commit to extreme precision while performing repetitive tasks - Tasks are often times repetitive and meticulous. This work is of vital importance to refine and perfect our content.
  
  

You Might Be a Good Fit If You Are

• An engaging, dynamic copywriter, with excellent oral and written skills. You have an uncanny knack for delighting your reading audience. You also are the type who can skillfully distill complex ideas into readable, digestible summaries.
• A thoughtful and thorough editor. You've spent time re-writing, proofreading, and giving feedback on others writing in a previous role. You've worked with a style guide before and enjoyed it.
• A fast, thorough reader with great comprehension skills.
• An expert at web-based research skills. You are committed to honesty and accuracy, and have applied this research to your edited and written content.
• Independent and proactive, able to follow intricate instructions, navigate uncertainties, and work autonomously whether in a remote or hybrid setting. Your ability to maintain focus, understanding, and drive in an autonomous environment is critical.
• Detail-oriented and an efficient manager of repetitive tasks. Your resilience and diligence in performing and managing repetitive tasks while preserving high standards of quality will be crucial in this role.
