Role: As an Aquatic Shift Leader and part of the Aquatic Programs & Aquatic Operations team, your goal will be to provide support and leadership on the deck to ensure the team operates in an efficient and professional manner. Providing a safe and high quality-learning environment for program and operational participants as well as providing up to date information to participants and the public.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist Aquatic Programming & Operations Manager with program equipment inventory and scheduling changes
  • Shift management; which includes facilitation of lesson set-up, providing direction for pool set ups, and breaks to ensure efficient and effective operations of the Aquatic facility
  • Required to attend sessional Lesson Supervisor meetings and monthly Deck Supervisor Meetings
  • Required to attend all Leadership Training within 6 month probation
  • Be readily available to substitute for any instructor or lifeguard during designated shift if necessary
  • Provide customers with up to date program information, updates on day sheets as well as assist with any/all program/operational questions/concerns and program registrations
  • Provide progress reports to the Aquatic Programming & Operations Manager every shift
  • Attend all quarterly Aquatic In-Services and provide assistance to the Aquatic Programming & Operations Manager
  • to develop and facilitate Lifeguard and Instructor training
  • Provide appropriate documentation and communication to the Aquatic Programming & Operations Manager for overall team functioning.
  • Ensure instructors and lifeguards are following job description, policies and procedures, as well as completing designated administrative or maintenance tasks during scheduled shifts
  • Be well versed on all program policies including refunds and late registration
  • Provide on deck leadership and supervision for the instructor and lifeguard team
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting abilities with quick decision making capabilities
  • Ability to establish strong Customer Centric relationships with all Stake holders to enhance their overall program experience including: (Parents, Participants, School Groups, Staff, Sport Partners, Coaches, Athletes, The Public)
  • Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of customers in the event of an emergency. Follow emergency procedures.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until arrival of emergency medical services
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times
  • Maintain a high standard of customer engagement
  • Attend and participate in ongoing training and development opportunities
  • Wear designated uniform while on duty
  • Provide shift coverage of your own shifts by another Aquatic Shift Lead where possible
  • Ability to deal with conflict and customer resolution, implementing Performance Management techniques where required and Aquatic Programming & Operations Manager for additional assistance and direction
  • Use active guarding techniques; including roaming, scanning and blind spot checks when on duty
  • Handle or refer programs and situations as they arise in the facility
  • Maintain a level of fitness necessary to fulfill the practical elements of lifeguarding and instructing
  • Be familiar with opening and closing procedures and perform opening and closing checks.
  • Identify, inform and track any maintenance issues within the shift reports
  • Collect, update and track stat sheets, Sport Partner headcounts and day sheet

What You’ll Need

  • CPR C (recertified within one year) and Standard First Aid (recertified within 2 years)
  • Current National Lifeguard
  • Current I Can Swim Certification
  • Employee must be well versed in Microsoft Office
  • 1 year previous experience in a supervisorial capacity
  • Lifesaving Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid Instructor, & NCCP certification are an asset
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Recreation, Leisure, Fitness, Coaching, Health, Sociology, Psychology, Education, etc. and/or a combination of award certifications and experience deemed equivalent is desired
