You will be part of the Financial Management Branch that is responsible for the consolidated capital and operating budgets and financial reporting and will perform professional senior accounting work. Candidate success is determined by the ability to:

  • Provide financial analytics, financial modeling, strategic support and consultative services to Edmonton Police Service department managers, facilitating strong financial governance and stewardship.
  • Consult with department managers to determine financial and accounting requirements and develop necessary financial systems and models to measure results.
  • Consult with department managers to determine annual budget distribution, and requirements.
  • Lead, coordinate and direct the preparation of a variety of complex and diverse financial reports and statements for both internal and external partners.
  • Perform monthly analysis of financial results against budget to identify variances, year-end projected costs, identify trends and develop financial models and funding strategies.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement and lead change through providing advice and expertise in accounting and business process.
  • Lead and participate in system enhancement and process improvement projects.
  • Develop and maintain financial processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Meet with various levels of management to present results of analysis or studies to modify financial models or the requirement for modified plans. Plan and evaluate strategic options.
  • Ensure adherence of financial requirements to the Municipal Government Act, Public Sector Accounting Board standards and City of Edmonton financial policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA) with an accounting-related degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive financial management experience working with financial analytics, budgeting and forecasting within a large organization.
  • Advanced Excel skills and technical proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated experience with major financial and budgeting software systems (SAP and COBS is an asset).
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills to identify and resolve complex financial issues in a complex environment.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain working relationships with personnel at all levels of an organization.
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently and under time constraints, with the ability to meet multiple reporting deadlines.
  • Applicants may be tested.
  • As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.


Hours of Work:

33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

Salary Range:

21M, Salary Grade: 033, $54.49 - $68.83 (Hourly), $3,678.50 - $4,646.30 (B-Weekly), $96,008 – $121,268 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
