We are looking for an experienced, organized, and resilient Proposal Centre Manager to lead a dynamic team that includes proposal specialists, a graphic designer, and a technical writer. Together, you will help create compelling and winning proposals for both large and focused projects across North America with a focus on Canada.
As a senior proposal professional, you will work closely with our senior management, business development professionals, bid managers, and bid team members to drive a consistent proposal process and ensure we are developing compliant and compelling RFP/RFQ responses and presentations.
As a team lead with national responsibilities, you will mentor and coach talented proposal staff to shine in their roles, and you will manage and balance your team’s workload. You will represent the Canadian business to the wider North American proposal team, and as a key member of the regional proposal team, you will share in the collaboration and knowledge exchange from your colleagues working in major markets across Canada and the US.
This role reports directly to the Regional Proposal Director and can be located in Vancouver, Calgary, or Toronto.

Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.

As The Successful Candidate, You Will
Team management
- Oversee your Canadian proposal team, which includes proposal specialists, a graphic designer, and a technical writer.
- Balance your team’s workload, which involves supporting multi-stage proposal pursuits, from early capture activities to full proposal preparation and subsequent interviews and close-out activities.
- Monitor and maintain your team’s utilization KPIs through knowledge of the proposal pipeline and effective resourcing.
- Support your team members with regular coaching and mentorship opportunities, both in the day-to-day and through formal quarterly conversations and goal-setting exercises.
- Plan for long-term team development through interviewing and onboarding strategic hires.
- Train new staff on our regional proposal and company-wide win processes.
- Enable ongoing learning through participation in internal development programs and external professional associations, conferences, and accreditation.
- Work with the regional proposal leadership team to organize and lead monthly proposal workshops for the regional proposal team.
- Work with the Regional Proposal Director on regional proposal initiatives, such as refining and implementing improvements or changes to the regional proposal process.
- Uphold the corporate brand and proposal quality with brand reviews and editorial reviews.
- Liaise and build relationships with business development professionals, business operations staff, group leads, portfolio leads, and technical staff to identify upcoming opportunities and inform your team’s workload.
- Engage regional proposal resources, such as the Regional Pursuit Strategist Manager and Regional Proposal Writer, to leverage additional capabilities for strategic pursuits.
- Lead or support the proposal strategy and development of creative, compelling, and targeted proposals across Mott MacDonald’s practices.
- Enable your proposal specialists to coordinate the proposal development process from start to finish.
- Support proposal kick-off and stage gate meetings with your perspective and inputs into the strategy and overall schedule.
- Review proposal drafts and final versions for responsiveness, compliance, accuracy, quality, consistent writing style, and effective layout and design.
- Participate in the overall development of proposals and presentations, including identifying key messages, themes, and differentiators.
- Support the development and implementation of pursuits and strategic pursuit processes.
- 10+ years of experience developing strategic submissions, preferably within the engineering and construction industry.
- Five years of experience building and leading teams.
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Management, Communications, Journalism, English, Business, or a related field.
- Strong ability to manage, motivate, and empathize with others, stimulating creativity, trust, and collaboration.
- Excellent oral, written, and visual communication skills, including editing and proofreading abilities.
- Effective communication with technical staff and management, fostering collaborative relationships.
- Excellent time and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Ability to thrive under the pressure of multiple deadlines while managing projects with diverse team members.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, analytical and general business skills, and the ability to process information quickly and accurately.
- Goal-oriented mindset with a desire to increase proposal win rate.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
