Reporting to the Food Manager, responsibilities for the position include the following:
- To provide good efficient, courteous customer service.
- To train and supervise staff in the proficient operation of a checkout.
- To schedule front-end staff, including customer service staff (where applicable), in order to maximize productivity and service
- To be responsible for areas including: interviewing, hiring, appraisal preparation and communication of Front-End Grocery team members.
- To handle complaints and errors of a minor nature in accordance to company policy.
- Responsible for the supervision of the ordering and stocking of: (a) Tobacco items. (b) Confectionery lines. (c) Magazines, including handling returns. (d) Checkout supplies. (e) Staff uniforms.
- To supervise the cleaning and cleaning schedules of the front end.
- To demonstrate leadership in the operation of the cash register and excellent customer service.
- To ensure daily housekeeping duties are implemented:
- Keeping merchandise free from dust. (b) Orderly display of merchandise on shelves and in bins. (c) Aisles to be kept free of unnecessary and unwarranted obstacles. (d) Shelves and bins in a clean orderly condition.
- To report out-of-stock items and any special customer requests for merchandise to the Food Manager or designate.
- To be familiar with and adhere to the credit and cheque cashing policy of the Co-operative.
- To improve product knowledge and salesmanship skills through the attendance and participation at training sessions, as directed by the supervisor.
- To be consistently alert for unauthorized removal of merchandise and to report the discrepancies to the Food Manager or designate.
- To input cost and pricing data using the P.C. Master system.
- To control and ensure daily patronage capture in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- To operate cash register as required.
- To present a neat, clean, Service Centre as required.
- To perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be proficient in cash register operation.
- Applicants must have at least two years of food cashier experience in order to allow them to operate efficiently and effectively within the department.
- Must possess adequate knowledge of, and experience in all lines, of merchandise handled by the Dept.
- Must be strongly service oriented and motivated, and capable of assisting customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Must have ability and experience in leading, training and supervising others.
- Must possess adequate knowledge and experience of computers in order to effectively operate in the department.
- Must be able to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends .
