Your Opportunity:
As the Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH) Community Educator, you will have a direct and meaningful impact within Alberta Health Services. Working collaboratively with a diverse team, the Community Educator delivers comprehensive sexual health education programs to various school and community groups, including professional and vulnerable groups. Session topics may include discussions on puberty, self-care and screenings, contraception, STBBI, pregnancy support options, consent, sexual assault, sexual orientation and gender diversity, and healthy relationships.
The Educator also supports the development of resources and projects with the Education and Health Promotion team. A vital part of this role involves bringing your lived experience and understanding of working with people disproportionately impacted by health disparities. Practicing within a culture of caring, the Educator is a key voice in providing real-time information to the Education and Health Promotion team regarding trends and needs observed in front-line teaching work.
This is a benefit-eligible casual employee position. Availability must be given as per the HSAA Collective agreement. Shift length can vary depending on session bookings. Hours are primarily daytime, but occasional evening sessions are needed. Flexibility in hours is an asset.
Description:
As a Community Educator, you will be responsible for delivering patient-centered education and health promotion to patients, families, and care providers. Education may be presented formally or informally in various settings, including clinical, classroom, and community. This includes building partnerships with specialized services, community partners, and AHS zone programs and staff. You may identify education opportunities, assist in content development, analyze and evaluate services, and work with internal staff to schedule classes and identify locations. You will build new partnerships, implement new initiatives, and promote your assigned program.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health or education related field.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Training in teaching & learning and group facilitation. Minimum 1 year’s experience in group facilitation/teaching. References supporting skills in communication, teaching, facilitation, and organization. Understanding in Population and Public Health, comprehensive sexuality education, trauma-informed care, harm-reduction, and stigma awareness approaches.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge and application of educational theory, youth learning & development, human sexuality, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusive practice, cultural awareness & humility. Experience in creating safer spaces for diverse populations and with populations impacted by health disparities. Experience with professional writing.
