Summary
Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre provides a collaborative response to child abuse through intervention, advocacy and a continuum of supports to children, youth and families. The Volunteer Coordinator position is a dynamic role responsible for coordinating the specialized Volunteer Program at Luna, engaging volunteers to fill a variety of roles to support children, youth and families.
Description
Reporting to the Director of Programs and Integrated Practice, the Volunteer Coordinator will perform a variety of duties related to recruitment and screening, training and onboarding, supervision and support, and engagement and recognition of all volunteers and post-secondary practicum students within the agency. Overall, the Volunteer Coordinator will lead the day-to-day coordination and administration of Luna’s volunteer program by working closely with volunteers and students, as well as staff working directly with volunteers and students, to ensure a smooth and operational program. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment requiring a high level of teamwork.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of recruitment strategies to attract, retain and replace volunteers.
- Develop position descriptions and selection criteria for each role in conjunction with leads from other departments.
- Interview and recruit volunteers ensuring they are appropriately matched to specific roles.
- Identify and maintain partnerships and opportunities to support the goals of the Volunteer Program.
- Coordinate and oversee the development of training materials for each role.
- Coordinate and oversee the onboarding and training of volunteers.
- Coordinate the proper supervision and support for volunteers with Luna staff.
- Together with the Director of Programs and Integrated Practice, support the development, management, and maintenance of policies, procedures, and standards relevant to the volunteer program.
- Track volunteer hours and activities for reporting purposes.
- Organize and manage annual recognition events for all volunteers.
- Promote volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment, strategies and campaigns.

- Experience coordinating projects and the development of programs.
- Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience speaking publicly to various audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to develop and foster relationships across the Luna partner agencies.
- Ability to work effectively both in a cross-functional team environment and independently.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary degree/diploma.
- Minimum two years of relevant experience managing and supervising volunteers/employees.
- Experience in engaging, assigning and supporting volunteers to enhance programs and services within a non-profit organization is an asset.
- Brain Story Certification
- Prior victim services/ advocacy experience is an asset.
