The Canadian Public Accountability Board oversees public accounting firms that audit reporting issuers. We promote audit quality through proactive regulation, robust audit assessments, dialogue with domestic and international stakeholders, and practicable insights that inform capital market participants and contribute to public confidence in the integrity of financial reporting.

We are recruiting for a Director, Inspections to join our Team.

You have the following qualifications and competencies:

  • A minimum of 10 years progressive public company accounting and audit experience at a Big Four or other national accounting firm.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of IFRS and Canadian Auditing Standards; US GAAP is also an asset.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to travel, approximately up to 6 weeks per year.
  • Est-ce que tu parles français ? Bilingual (French/English) language capabilities are preferred .

What you will be doing:

As a member of a highly skilled team the Director, Inspections role involves:

  • Conducting inspections of audit firms (both public company audit files and the Firm’s quality management systems) in accordance with CPAB’s inspection methodology. This will include discussions with the audit Firm’s engagement teams and members of the Firm’s leadership.
  • Maintaining control of assigned inspection work, including meeting deadlines and conducting the inspection in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Fostering professional, productive and respectful working relationships with colleagues, the firms and other external stakeholders, such that all interfaces reflect positively on CPAB and underscore the importance of the organization’s mission and advance the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Preparing high quality written reports.
  • Participating in inspection projects aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of CPAB’s inspection processes.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Some travel throughout the year.
