Economic Development Officer

The Opportunity:
To lead and coordinate the functions of the Economic Development Section and oversees the City's interests in regional economic partnerships. Develops and implements economic development strategies, marketing plans and programs to facilitate investment and labour force retention and attraction; and interacts with business and stakeholders at a local, provincial, federal and international level.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Undergraduate degree, majoring in marketing, communications or business administration plus five or more years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to communicate on a confidential basis and professional level with business representatives, elected officials and public, to withstand stress situations, influence positive outcomes through negotiations, and respond courteously to complaints.
- Ability to work independently and with a minimum amount of supervision to effectively assess and manage complex tasks and projects, present alternative solutions and achieve objectives in a timely manner, with significant consequence for error.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate, guide or manage others and co-workers in carrying out interdependent duties.
- Ability to effectively promote the advantages of the City as a place to locate business with knowledge of the Tourism Industry as an economic driver.
- Considerable knowledge of marketing, economic development and land development with the demonstrated ability in supervision, project management, basic accounting and finance, and computer applications (MS office suite, Internet, JD Edward/One world, etc.).
- Understands governance models and Boards of Directors to be able to protect City interests by providing advice to organizations about how they are structured.

Remuneration:
$49.34 to $52.25 per hour. (2024 Rates)
Hours of Work:
75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
Additional Information:
The term of this position is anticipated to be 1 year.
