Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Safety & Security Advisor. This position will be based out of Calgary or Edmonton and will report to the Manager, Safety & Security. The ideal candidate will be responsible for advising on all aspects of health, safety, and environmental practices and will bring a proactive approach to risk management, regulatory compliance, and HSE culture development to support safe and sustainable business operations.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Participate in incident investigations, as well as the systematic identification, assessment, and control of hazards and risks within the organization
  • Support the implementation of initiatives, procedures, standards, and programs; Create awareness and training materials (bulletins, videos, alerts)
  • Analysis and reporting on trends, statistics, and KPIs – monthly, quarterly, annual, etc.
  • Participates in safety and security audit programs (COR, internal, site-specific)
  • Internal support and administration: setting up new employees, orientations, schedule training, review incidents for statistical accuracy
  • Recognizing and promoting safe behavior
  • Assist in the development of safe operating procedures, hazard assessments, emergency procedures, job safety analyses, and scheduling emergency exercises
  • Take part in scheduled and unscheduled site inspections
  • Responsible for providing internal training and competency assessments
  • WCB claims management
  • Travel to other Spartan locations to participate in safety meetings, inspections, training, etc.
  • Schedule meetings and provide leadership on safety committees
  • Maintenance of Safety database (eCompliance)
  • Provide 7/24 support, as required

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 5+ years of Health and Safety experience within the oil and gas industry
  • Designation or completion of one of the following is an asset
    • Canadian Registered Safety Professions (CRSP)
    • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate or Diploma
    • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certificate
  • Having a trade background (Electrical, Instrumentation, etc.) is a significant advantage
  • Experience in warehousing and manufacturing is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of Western Canadian and OSHA regulatory requirements, including powered mobile equipment and crane and rigging
  • A high degree of discretion and confidentiality
  • Knowledge and experience with digital safety management tools are considered an advantage
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills within the health and safety discipline
  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work requirements effectively with minimal direction
  • Strong computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and focus on multiple objectives
  • Strong communication and training skills
  • Has situational awareness, ability to “think on one’s feet”
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Entrepreneurial work ethic
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, safe driving record, and willing to travel
