Unit Assistant

Summary:
The Unit Assistant supports and assists nursing staff in providing optimal care for dialysis patients in the Renal Program. Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate may be required to work at the KW site and the satellite units. Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Dialysis Assistant Certificate required. Candidates who are enrolled in the Dialysis Assistant Certificate course and will obtain the required certificate within 6 months of hire will be considered after candidates with the required certificate
- Current experience within the Renal program is preferred
- Familiar with aseptic and sterile techniques and hospital procedures
- Able to lift, carry, stoop, and pull
- Must be flexible and able to work in a rapidly changing environment with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of hospital computer systems
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend the English language (written/verbal)
- Must be able to be trained and act as a Code White Responder
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Ability to work in a chronic care environment
- Demonstrated excellent organization skills and ability to multitask
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team
- Good attendance record
