Job Description
Reporting to the Manager and under the project direction of a research supervisor, the Research Assistant takes specific responsibilities, provides support and contributes to research programs and/or projects. The focus of the position is applied research work related to a specific project, and/or performing specific tasks within a research program and/or project initiative. This may include working with single or multiple stakeholders, single or several project deliverables, and the use of instrumentation and/or software.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs analysis/develop software/conduct interviews as directed by the Research Supervisor and/or Research Associate.
- Accurately and consistently records and analyzes results or transcriptions and procedures.
- Assists with preparation of written reports, academic papers, and conference or community presentations.
- Analyzes experimental data/software performance/survey results.
- Communicates results in written and oral reports.
- Performs literature searches and summarizes results.
- Contributes to the information for control and back up.
- Maintains the working environment including anticipating and ordering supplies.
- Operates and performs routine maintenance on advanced equipment/software/survey tools.
- Train and assist students with performing data gathering activities as directed by supervisor or other research team members.
- Maintain and evaluate work environment safety
- Performs other related project duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
Education & Experience
- Completion of minimum two (2) years of post-secondary studies related to the field of inquiry.
- Minimum one (1) years’ related research or lab assistance experience.
- Sound experience performing laboratory analysis and utilizing research software/analysis tool in field of inquiry.
- Experience preparing written reports.
Skills & Abilities
- Basic skills related to the field of inquiry (e.g. interview skills, lab skills, programming skills).
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work cooperatively with all members of the College community including faculty researcher, staff, and students and provide leadership in information gathering and analysis.
- Ability to prioritize and manage a variety of multiple short and long-term concurrent projects with minimal supervision and high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- General knowledge of the requirements to adhere to regulatory and College policies regarding access to, use of, and release of confidential information.
- Ability to exercise a high level of initiative and accountability.
- Ability to physically perform the duties of the position and meet work performance standards set by the College.
- Aptitude to learn new processes or instrument use.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency using computer applications such as MS Office applications, email and web browsers, and various related lab tools and software.
Salary Range
$30.74 - $35.10 per hour
