About The Workplace
As the Senior Accountant, you’ll be part of the team that performs full cycle accounting for Vancity and its subsidiaries to support the timely and accurate reporting of financial results. This role performs the accounting for more complex areas and is responsible for reviewing the work of others to verify accuracy. This role assists in the preparation of financial statements and related notes and supports the external audit process.
This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically, you’ll be required to attend in-person activities or events.
A Typical Day Would Involve
The salary range for the role is $71,500 to $107,300 and a candidate’s offer is likely to be up to the mid-point of the role ($89,400). The upper half of the salary range is typically reserved for individuals who have demonstrated consistent strong performance in the role and possess a high level of job knowledge and skill.

About The Workplace

A Typical Day Would Involve
- Perform accounting for more complex areas such as pensions, fixed assets, financial instruments, leases, consolidation entries, intercompany transactions, foreign exchange translation, and required adjustments for the generation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
- Perform full cycle accounting for assigned Vancity subsidiaries, associated companies, and/or specific lines of business, including the timely preparation of monthly financial statements and reporting.
- Perform detailed analysis and investigations to provide insightful comments on account activities and/or to provide recommended solutions to promptly resolve issues.
- Review the work of others to validate accuracy, providing constructive feedback and coaching as necessary.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve documentation and improve processes.
- Collaborate with project teams and IT Solutions on upgrading and/or implementing finance systems.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements and related notes by providing supporting working papers and analysis.
- Prepare accounting and tax information required for external auditors. Address inquiries from external auditors and provide any additional information requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized post-secondary institution (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years of experience at a senior accountant level or higher, would be an asset
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
- Proficiency in accounting applications (i.e. Sage) and Microsoft Excel
- Business acumen in the context of the financial industry, would be an asset
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills to manage technical deliverables and provide feedback and coaching to team members
- Strong written and documentation skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Results-oriented – You have a demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders in order to conduct diagnosis, analyze findings, generate appropriate options, and build deliverables all while securing their commitment to these solutions in a timely manner.
- Analytical – You seek to facilitate data-driven decision making, including “rolling up your sleeves” to collect data, research and build models.
- A problem solver – Your skills to diagnose challenges and issues, develop innovative business solutions, and assess risks and opportunities that may affect the business have been put to good use.
