THE ROLE
The Foreman will work under the direction of the Superintendent to assist with the successful execution of the project through understanding of scope and being actively engaged in the management of own forces and subtrade work and be one of the key individuals responsible for Safety on site and implementing the CANA Safety Program. A construction foreman has a solid background in the field. Your leadership skills and your extensive experience have earned you the ability to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. You must be well-organized and favor safety above everything else.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- To ensure that all subcontract forces as well as our own forces, work as safely, quickly, and efficiently as possible on site. This includes scheduling and coordinating subcontract field forces and making sure that all queries asked are responded to.
- Work with Superintendent and other site staff in executing work in accordance with project schedule. Supply information to update and monitor schedule to ensure that milestones are met.
- Review and understand the scope of work and responsibilities of own forces and subtrade scopes of work.
- Attend subcontractor site meetings and be engaged in active communication on site. Ensure that the site is kept clean, and all work is done in a safe manner. Material and equipment are to be well managed and tracked.
- Review the Specifications and design documents, including shop drawings to ensure that work is carried out in accordance with them. Ensure that all changes to the contract are incorporated into the work on site.
- Complete detailed Daily reports file as required on the project, including manpower, temperature, weather, incidents implementation of corrective action, hazard assessments, hot work permits, daily tasks completed, concrete volumes and mix designs, including copies of the pour slips, other material deliver and shipping information.
- Coordinate the delivery of materials and equipment on site, including assisting with booking of cranes, hoists, and loading areas as required. Oversee the tracking of rental returns and manage inventory logs.
- Complete Safety documentation, Daily Hazard assessments and FLHAs, be engaged with site inspections and site investigations, hold trades and workforce to a high standard of safety, hold yourself to the highest standard. Enforce CANA Safety policy on site.
- Play close attention to scaffold, fall arrest and any overhead conditions on site.
- Manage and oversee winter heat and hoarding ensure that gas lines are checked and in safe condition.
- Effectively managing crew time and tasks (including start, finish, and break times).
- Effectively track, enter, and submit daily manpower time entries.
- Ensure site is safe and secure at the end of every shift.
YOU WILL NEED
- Journeyman Carpenter preferred; other project/construction management experience considered. Additional training as required by the CANA staff training matrix.
- 2-5 years of commercial construction within a supervisory role.
- Possess strong communication, leadership, integration, problem-solving, interfacing, scheduling, project management and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in various software programs, to implement the day-to-day site operations (drawings, deficiency lists, RFI’s, etc.).
- Effectiveness in the areas of construction safety and productivity, contractor management, construction planning and execution, project organization and construction project controls.
- Labour relations expertise in both union and non-union environments an asset.
- Professional conduct with both internal and external customers
- Demonstrate a commitment to all facets of the role while working towards the achievement of company goals and objectives.
- Awareness of policies and procedures and fellow team members within the organization
- Ability to work hands on while supervising crews of 5-50 personnel.
- Valid Driver’s License or means of transportation to project sites.
- Have a good understanding and/or ability to find information as needed in the OH&S regulations.
