This Opportunity
The Ottawa office of Smith + Andersen is seeking a Project Manager for our Intelligent Integrated Systems team. You’ve been interested in the convergence of building systems and see this integration as the future of building system design. You also have fantastic prioritization abilities. While everyone else is focused on their individual tasks, you’ve got an eye on the larger goals of a project, with a detailed road map for how to meet those goals. Others know that deadlines do not slip and details will not get missed when working with you. As a natural leader, you are happiest when everyone is moving in the same direction, and you never hesitate to step up and provide others with the answers they need. You have clear communication skills, which you use to ensure clients, consultants, and contractors are kept informed. Your calm demeanor helps you manage multiple tasks without getting frazzled, allowing you to take on intelligent (smart/IoT) building solutions, audiovisual, telecommunications, building automation and/or electronic safety and security systems for some of the most exciting projects in the country.

What You'll Do
- Prepare, or assist Associate- and Principal-in-charge with, the development of all system engineering concepts (e.g. design brief) and concept reports for specialty building systems including intelligent (smart/IoT) building solutions, audiovisual, telecommunications, building automation and electronic safety and security systems.
- Review and manage the design in terms of construction budgets.
- Perform, or arrange for, reviews of existing installation and interpret/manage the impact on the project.
- Prepare all calculations and select all equipment.
- Fully understand Codes and Standards relevant for the project and systems and communicate all requirements to the internal project team, external project team, owner, and Authorities having Jurisdiction.
- Ensure proper coordination of documents with the internal and external project team (architect, interior designer, and other disciplines).
- Fully understand (construction) project procurement methodologies and recommend or apply such methods for the project.
- Review all deliverables for the project including reports, calculations, drawings, and/or specifications.
- Review for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development as defined by internal total quality management.
- Promote and enforce company standards relating to project administration, documentation and processes such as total quality management.
- Act as contract administrator for designated projects (if required), ensuring timely completion of all contract administration activities for the project.
- Ensure that shop drawing review process occurs within project timelines.
- Coordinate with the contract administration team regarding drawing reviews, setup of contract administration process and site activities.
- Prepare all change notices or review change notices issued by the contract administration team.
- Responsible for both technical and financial queries related to the project.
- Ensure the internal project team discipline coordination processes are complete.
- Organize and attend meetings including client meetings and deliver presentations to clients/owners.
Who You Are
- Five or more years in telecommunications, security, audiovisual, smart buildings or electrical.
- Knowledgeable about industry standards including AVIXA, BISCI, EIA/TIA, ASIS and CSA.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAD/Revit, MS Project.
- Strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
- Proven ability to work in a complex environment with multiple projects and clients.
- Sound communication skills through client and staff relations.
- Demonstrated experience working with other consultants and contractors, coordinating major projects.
- Display strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
Nice to Have
- P. Eng, RCDD, PSP, CTS, CTS-D, MCSE, CCIE Certifications are an asset.
