The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join our dynamic Information Management Technology team. As a Student, Data Integration Developer, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to AER’s significant legacy system retirement project. This project involves transitioning to modern technological frameworks, including React, Node.js, CI/CD pipelines, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and the Cloud Data Estate. You will work alongside a team of energetic professionals on data migration and integration tasks, gaining hands-on experience with enterprise data architecture, data engineering, and management. Throughout the summer, you will engage with cutting-edge tools and technologies in the Microsoft Azure Cloud environment, participating in data modernization and transformation activities that are critical to the success of the organization. Your work will play a vital role in helping AER deliver modern solutions that meet evolving business needs. What your day-to-day will look like:
- Collaborate with domain leads and team members in data management, architecture, and engineering, working alongside business, infrastructure, and product delivery teams.
- Support tasks related to data migration and integration, ensuring alignment with product delivery objectives.
- Transform and model target-state data repositories to meet business needs for analysis, reporting, and dissemination.
- Prepare documentation for data flows, data lineage, and data modeling as required.
- Participate in Agile team meetings, reviews, and other discussions as needed.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Computer Science or a related field.
- Completion of coursework in Data Analysis, Data Engineering, or Data Analytics is preferred.
- Strong analytical and collaboration skills.
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co-op program will be a condition of hire.
