Contributing to the CMPA

The Communication and Marketing department provides strategic advice, guides overall messaging and positioning, and provides marketing, creative writing, editing, translation and graphic design services. The department also monitors changes in the physician and healthcare environments, proactively identifies risks and emerging issues, and works to ensure that CMPA messages resonate with our members. In addition, the Communication and Marketing department is integral in driving and supporting change within the Association.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Communications, the Strategic Communications Advisor provides strategic and proactive communications advice, guidance, and coaching to the Safe Medical Care Learning (SMC-L) department to support the organization’s business objectives. Operating as SMC-L’s communications service expert, the advisor has significant experience marketing and promoting learning and educational activities across multiple channels (e.g., social, digital, and print). The advisor brings the strategic mindset and critical thinking skills needed to support the development and realization of the long-term goals for the SMC-L department. The advisor looks for proactive opportunities to enhance SMC-L’s promotion and marketing efforts. The advisor also builds relationships across the organization, and with external stakeholders when needed, collaborating across departments to ensure consistency of internal and external branding and messaging.

Position Activities

  • Develops and delivers external communication and marketing strategies, plans, and products to support client groups (e.g., the Safe Medical Care Learning department).
  • Provides strategic, innovative marketing advice and communications support to build awareness and uptake of CMPA’s learning activities, resources, and programs – including the CMPA’s Good practices, webinars, electronic learning activities, resident-focused Patient Safety Primer, and virtual and face-to-face workshops.
  • Curates and crafts a broad range of high-quality materials for target audience groups, including digital advertorial content, social media posts, eNewsletter content, marketing emails, web content, video, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of the changing healthcare environment and proactively identifies marketing and communication opportunities.
  • Reinforces the CMPA brand, corporate mission, vision, values, and initiatives both externally and internally through written and visual storytelling.
  • Supports the development and realization of the goals set out in the SMC-L Learning strategy.
  • Manages the flow of content between SMC-L and translation, design, and web.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of communications initiatives by collecting appropriate data, analyzing and measuring effectiveness, and refining strategies as required.
  • Delivers quarterly reports on the effectiveness of the marketing and promotional activities.
  • Proactively identifies new opportunities for promotions and marketing.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Facilitates the flow of information within the Communication and Marketing department and across the organization
  • Works closely with:
    • Members of the Communication and Marketing department, members of the SMC-L department, and the Web team to manage and refresh learning content on the CMPA website.
    • People Leaders and Learning Coordinators within the SMC-L department to develop and deliver communication strategies, activities, and products – including creating appropriate branding and messaging for learning products and events.
    • The Manager, Strategic Communications to identify organizational needs and develop, execute, and manage communication strategies, products, and activities at an enterprise level.
    • The other Strategic Communications Advisors to support the execution of communication activities within various lines of business.
    • The Editors, Translators, and Designers on the delivery of communications products and activities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree (4 years) in a specialized field (e.g. B.Comm, Marketing, Public Relations)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in progressive communications roles
  • Experience executing measurable, multi-channel marketing and communication plans
  • Experience working with staff and leaders at all levels, managing competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Experience working in an association with a national focus and active membership is a strong asset
  • An understanding of adult education principles is an asset

  • Demonstrates high aptitude for adaptability and flexibility
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal and excellent active listening skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate compelling messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, fostering co-operative and collaborative customer-focused working relationships
  • Excellent project management, organizational and consulting skills with a high attention to quality, detail and accuracy
  • Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset

Posting Details

  • This is a 12-month term full-time position; includes paid time off and benefits.
  • Salary range: $83,700 to $111,900 annually- classified as a level 8
  • Location: Hybrid – Primary Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office the majority of time, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (up to 1-2 days per week). If you prefer to work in an office setting as your primary workspace, you can choose to work out of the CMPA’s office located in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow’s Lake.
