This competition is to recruit to a three-year term as program head (end date of June 30, 2028). The successful candidate will retain an ongoing instructor position.
Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA)
Job Duties
General Accountability: The program head provides academic and first-point-of contact leadership for students, faculty, and staff in their assigned program. The program head works closely with the academic chair and program faculty, staff, and administration on a daily basis to assist students to achieve success through the management of quality education and training delivery.
Nature & Scope: Based in Saskatoon, the program head reports to the Medical Diagnostics Academic Chair, School of Health Sciences. It may be necessary for the program head to travel for program and administrative responsibilities including participation in inter-site committees. The School of Health Sciences provides diploma, advanced certificate, certificate, and other credentials for approximately seventeen health disciplines. The primary role is to maintain effective communication and support between the program faculty, staff, and students to the academic chair.
Responsibilities: The program head initiates curriculum development and renewal, is responsible for liaison with student affairs, and manages confidential student issues. The role includes staff recruitment and selection, orientation, and coaching and mentoring staff.
Specific Accountabilities
1. Academic Leadership and Administration
- Monitor delivery of quality programming responsive to the needs of students, business/industry, and the public.
- Champion and facilitate academic activity including curriculum development and delivery, and instructional methods and academic standards.
- Participate in program accreditation and review involving internal and external stakeholder groups.
2. Student Affairs
- Monitor and lead the daily operations related to student matters.
- Participate in student recruitment initiatives and ensure consistent student onboarding experiences.
- Act as a first point of contact for student complaints and academic advising.
3. Program Leadership
- Promote teamwork and good communication among staff and faculty.
- Foster an organizational environment that encourages productivity, job satisfaction, and professional growth.
4. Relationship Management
- Represent the School on internal committees as assigned by the academic chair.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external agencies and educational institutions.
5. Resource Allocation
- Manage program resources effectively and contribute to the development of the Multi-Year Business Plan.
6. Strategic Planning
- Contribute program perspective to strategic planning and implement program changes in alignment with strategic initiatives.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities (QSA)
- Combined Laboratory and X-Ray diploma plus minimum of four years of experience.
- Willingness to work towards a degree in education or a related field.
- Membership with or eligibility for membership with the Saskatchewan Association of Combined Laboratory X-Ray Technologists.
- Two years of recent teaching or clinical experience.
