Position Overview

You're someone with an analytical mindset who approaches their work with a hunger for innovation. You’re digitally savvy and have a technical curiosity to explore, create, and transform.

As engineer, measurement, you'll support the Meter Shop in adapting to new metering technology, including expanding calibration services through development and upgrades of new and existing prover systems. Reporting to the meter shop manager and measurement engineer, this position focuses on supporting the ISO17025 accreditation program and providing technical assistance to other areas, such as Engineering and Operations.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and support new and existing measurement test systems in the Meter Shop, including new meter device prover systems, installations, and modifications to meter prover systems and other capital projects.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and evaluate the soundness of proposed engineering tests, products, or equipment. Additionally, you’ll define design constraints, select appropriate engineering techniques to solve problems, and provide design recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian regulations, codes, standards, and guidelines for measurement devices and systems as you collaborate on phases of engineering assignments and assessments, while utilizing best practices and related tools.
  • Develop a deep technical understanding of design and operations as you provide technical assistance to team members. This includes responding to queries, explaining technical requirements, validating work in accordance with standards, and identifying and resolving issues related to assets.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility as you conduct gap and cost/benefit analyses. Report costs to manager, ensuring proper approval processes are met.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university, plus a minimum of four to seven years of recent and related experience, preferably in utility operations and design.
  • Currently registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
  • An equivalent combination of education, related training, and experience may be considered.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks at once under minimal supervision as you work to improve processes and procedures.
  • Exceptional communication skills as you establish strong working relationships with all levels of the organization and communicate technical information to a wide audience.
