Skills Development and Employment ensures that people with disabilities find and keep meaningful jobs by matching them with employers seeking qualified job candidates. In addition, they offer support with assessments, rehabilitation and child and youth programs.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with Project SEARCH Instructor, internship department managers/mentors, co-workers, family members, School Board personnel, and Project SEARCH management.
- Identify and implement training strategies and/or services in coordination with the Project SEARCH instructor and host business staff.
- In coordination with the instructor and business liaison, identify and develop internship sites that offer a variety of opportunities to build marketable, competitive skills that lead to employment.
- Consult with host business department employees on tools and techniques that support intern learning and success.
- Train interns on tasks using systematic instruction techniques.
- Develop task analysis to support interns in learning and performing to required productivity and quality standards.
- Learn the site culture, rules, and expectations within each department and assist interns to understand and comply.
- Support with accessibility and accommodation needs, ensuring adherence to MODC accommodation policies.
- Train interns in grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and work/social behavior relevant to successful employment.
- Assess intern progress and provide feedback to interns and team members.
- Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and internal MODC policies and procedures.
- Complete reports, case notes, and assessments as required.
- Assist with tools such as the VocFit Assessment to determine intern abilities, internship task demands, and support meaningful internship matches.
- Facilitate ongoing communication with all members of the steering committee to ensure intern progress and address challenges or changes to model fidelity.
- Support interns during evenings and weekends as needed.
Qualifications and experience
- Degree or diploma in Social Services, Developmental Service Worker, or other relevant education.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in training/coaching, systematic instruction, job, and task analysis.
- Experience in employment counseling is considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
- Strong organizational skills, self-direction, and initiative when managing a variety of responsibilities and tasks.
- Ability to make decisions and problem-solve effectively with a team of service providers.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills that promote relationships with interns, families, HSN, Project SEARCH team members, and partner agencies.
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office 2000 and Windows).

Salary Range: $26.67/hour
