Responsibilities
The coordinator will be responsible for coordinating services offered by the Jim Fielding Innovation and Commercialization Space. The role includes supporting the development, operation and promotion of activities to attract, support, and foster entrepreneurial and innovative students and faculty, as well as overseeing programming in the space including equipment in the makerspace.
- Oversee the daily operations of activities and programming in the Jim Fielding Innovation Space including the intake process for new clients;
- Provide general business advice for start-ups and small businesses;
- Oversee an online system that registers clients, coordinates meeting room and makerspace equipment bookings;
- Supervise and deliver the skills training clients require to access makerspace equipment; and support and coordinate internal and external partnerships and key projects to support the mission of the Jim Fielding Innovation Space;
- Supervise any work study students in the Jim Fielding Innovation Space;
- Coordinate room bookings for the Jim Fielding Innovation Space and oversee makerspace equipment bookings;
- Oversee the delivery of skills training required to access any equipment;
- Perform general troubleshooting and required maintenance of equipment, furnishings and software;
- Coordinate any required maintenance of equipment using external service providers including obtaining quotes and processing of payments;
- Order supplies for the makerspace and any Jim Fielding Innovation Space activities including catering;
- Organize and conduct new client intake meetings;
- Develop, market, and present information about the Jim Fielding Innovation Space service and programs to a variety of audiences including elementary and secondary students, STEM programs, and visitors to campus;
- Develop and coordinate delivery of program and educational content (workshops and seminars) on topics including intellectual property, entrepreneurship fundamentals, business development, financial literacy, market research, and commercialization strategies;
- Assist in the development, implementation, and updating of the marketing strategy for the Jim Fielding Innovation Centre, including promotional materials, website content, and social media;
- Work with the Director, Research and Innovation on the creation and implementation of the University’s Annual Commercialization plan;
- Track program activities and prepare annual reports for the Jim Fielding Innovation Space and metrics;
- Order any supplies and catering related to the Jim Fielding Innovation Space activities and reconcile expenses;
- Regularly engage with the local community of stakeholders and service providers;
- Coordinate teams of students, mentors, volunteers, advisors, as well as other business ecosystem partners who will assist in delivering Jim Fielding Innovation Space business advisory services to our start-ups and entrepreneurs;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- One (1) to three (3) years of related experience;
- Experience with programming languages;
- Previous experience creating and implementing marketing and communication strategies;
- Ability to work independently;
- Project management, networking and communication skills;
- Ability to deliver workshops and training sessions on entrepreneurial-related topics;
- Baseline knowledge of intellectual property;
- Knowledge of processes, tools, and resources that support entrepreneurs and start-ups;
- Familiarity with various hardware equipment (i.e. projectors, interactive whiteboards, digital cameras, printers, 3D printers, etc.);
- Familiarity with a wide range of digital technology tools such as Arduino, 3D scanning, and printing, laser cutting;
- Ability to create and implement online learning resources;
- Proficiency in social media channels including: Facebook, X, Instagram, blogs, and newsletter e-mail software;
- Leadership and planning capabilities;
- Ability to facilitate dialogue among a diverse group of constituents;
- Comfortable working with corporate guests, politicians, entrepreneurs, regional stakeholders, and service providers;
- Time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities;
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from May to August, amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
